Don’t know what’s happened to the bar menu. We used to come here regularly just for the woodchoppers pizza and prawn twisters, all at a reasonable price. Now it’s overpriced and boring , and one of only a few places that charged a 15 per cent surcharge today. Not impressed anymore
Went to the Boathouse (same menu as the Portage on the same site). Slow, slow, slow for food on a Sunday, took an hour (given a half hour estimate). Small menu seemed more like a kids menu with nothing special (fish and chips, beef burger, ribs, nachos, or fries). Got the bbq beef burger – the flavour of the patty was nice, however all our burgers (3 ordered) were consistently cold. Nachos were tasty but wouldn’t have minded something green on top like guacamole or coriander or salad on the side and something spicy like salsa or tabasco to add. Beetroot salad was nice, sweet and filling. Counter service very friendly and nice, you collect your own food – no table waiting. Wouldn’t really recommend this place for food, but nice atmosphere for a drink defiinitely, with cool live music (on Sunday)!
Called in for a coffee on way to Parakai, nice coffee, nice ambiance, nice walk out the back to the river, The Landing restaurant is here and The Boat House for events.
