Intrigued, having never heard of the place, the Huskies piled into the family wagon and tootled up to Eden Terrace, a mere 3 minute drive, to visit the Sandwich Club. Is it a caf, a lunch bar, a caf-come-lunch bar? We couldn’t quite decide as we were ushered through the main area into the back room’s only table that could accommodate six. Unfortunately it was a wee case of ‘first impressions last’ as the owner ushered out hovering fruit flies, hastily opened the windows and quickly shut the door of an overflowing storage cupboard. We brushed off what seemed to be either unused or unwiped seats and sat down. The service was intermittent and food, mostly cabinet, and coffee both arrived staggered at different times. However, the coffee was hot, the food was quite delicious and had that homely homemade goodness feel, underscoring the A food grade rating. Heading out, we noticed the front of house part of the caf was completely full and also had people queuing for take-away cabinet and coffees obviously The Sandwich Club are doing something right. Probably a bit more attention to the cleanliness of the back room would have transformed our experience but perhaps they are better geared towards the grab and go’ clientele of the Eden Terrace workforce.Check out our individual comments here: husk.co.nz/lunches/the-sandwich-club-may-2016
Really lovely little cafe, Cheryl makes all the delicious baked goods on site and when you are lucky enough to get them straight from the oven its magic! Loads of dairy and gluten free options as well and coffee is fantastic! This is why they are my regular!!
Delicious food and awesome service. I come in for a quite bite to eat and generally chat to the staff for ten minutes. They will always make me an off-the-menu vegan sandwich but do have vegan options in the cabinet.
The staff are very friendly here and they make great coffee. the home made cakes and slices are delicious. try some of the different milkshakes very yummyupdate 2017. new owners means poor quality food and service
My high rating is due mostly to the great service provided by the friendly staff at this cafe. Few times I’ve been here the staff have been great in really making sure I got what I wanted. Coffee tastes great and food looks delish!
Came in for a Long Black… WOW! One of the best I’ve tasted since a long time! They provide little samples and I had a bite of the raspberry muffin: finally something that tasted like its name. Raspberry Muffin. YUM! I thank God that I leave almost next door. I’ll come in again. And again. And again.
Had a muffin and a mocha from The Sandwich Club yesterday and the service, food and coffee was so good I went back for the same today. There was a bit of a wait on my coffee this morning, but as it turns out, this was because they ran out of chocolate powder for my mocha. Instead of simply apologising and asking me to choose something else, the lovely staff went ahead and melted chocolate chips in a milk jug in order to make my mocha. All I can say is WOW! I will definitely be stopping in to The Sandwich Club more often and would highly reccomend it. 🙂
