Been to this place 2 weeks ago, first visit and likely last visit. I can see this place has got raving reviews on this website but all the reviews were from 2011-1012. Perhaps the restaurant has got a new chef or something. The place was empty so our food came very quickly. The vege tempura was reasonable but my udon soup broth tasted more like Chinese noodle soup rather than Japanese (the chef is a Chinese chef). Don’t get me wrong, I am Chinese and I love Chinese noodle. It didn’t taste bad, but it just didn’t taste authentic japanese. Then came my tempura soft shell crab. I am a big fan of soft shell crab and I have sampled countless versions of this dish at different Japanese restaurants. This is by far the worst. The crab was obviously frozen crabs. The chef has failed to defrost it properly. As a result, the crab was undercooked. And the under-defrosted crab has also caused the tempura batter to turn soggy. I spitted out the meat the moment I ate it. The salmon sashimi was not the freshest and it was sliced way too thin. It looks like those $8 sashimi box you get from Faro supermarket.

It’s a kind of hidden away and we thought it looked a bit quiet but it was definitely worth checking out! We ordered the sushi selection, dinner box and vegetable tempura with rice. The service was great and the food came beautifully presented. The dinner box was pretty sizable and was the most impressive dish of the night. I would consider the pricing to be pretty on par with other Japanese restaurants. Would definitely go back!
we have been going to e-sushi for years, we either get take out or eat in. Everyone there knows our names and what we want to order they are just so lovely. The fresh food and economical price cant be beaten and the restaurant is clean and quite fancy looking. Love it!
Had dinner last night for Valentines at this restaurant. when I mentioned my name and that I had a booking, I received a huge welcome!! The staff were soooo friendly and smiling the whole night. The food was amazing. After dinner, one of the ladies presented both of us with a desert each, compliments of the chef!!! Totally blew us away!! Will be back to dine again and have recommended to friends also.Keep up the great work!!!!
I love E japanese, the staff are always so friendly and helpful trying to make sure you get the best deal. I often go for dinner and get a little bit of everything and its amazing! My favourite japanese place in auckland!!!

I love this Japanese restaurant. I have client’s in the vicinity and often get the small takeaway lunchbox (small bendo) which we all love. The staff are wonderful & friendly & the food is always fresh & top notch.
