Visited here when passing through at tea time. As a highly experienced chip eater, it’s usually risky eating at new places as the likelihood of getting boring and overcooked chips is high. However here I was pleasantly surprised.We ordered a medium chips and 2 pieces of fish of the day. Fish seemed a bit expensive at $4.70 each but it was either that or a dried out pie from a gas station!Dinner was served on a cardboard tray in a bag, so was easy to eat in the car. If you eat in location there is free sauce in the table, unusual for Auckland.Chips were a good mix of squishy and crunchy ones, and the fish was a thick fresh piece. It seemed like it had not been frozen prior and was a bigger portion than most places I usually go. I removed a ratings star for the batter – although it was thin and crispy, it was very greasy. They’ve done such a good job otherwise.(I note that they also seem to sell some bakery products which I did not sample. I don’t appreciate seeing bread loaves out and uncovered in the main shop area, so would not be partaking in those anyway.)Overall I was pleased with the size of the portions and the quality of the fish, and would be happy to return.
the owner (if its the man) is very polite, food is presented fast and the quality is always good. i personally think there is a bit going on with the seafood takeaways and the bakery – but whatever works. ice cream machine runs whenever the shop is open. food is of decent quality and the pricing i think aligns.
Best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Always go there for lunch, always fresh food and not soggy like most takeaways. If ever you’re in Clevedon be sure to visit this place after the beach.
I really enjoyed having lunch here last month. The service was friendly and helpful – the gentleman behind the counter even suggested we had ordered too much! The fish was fresh and well battered. The chips weren’t greasy at all. The pies weren’t great but then again, it is primarily a seafood outlet. I’ll definitely eat there again when in Clevedon.
Had to create this account to warn people about my problems with Clevedon Seafoods. We used to be regulars but we have decided to find better places as it is the third time we felt disappointed. We chose to try out their Chinese food for the first time. BEWARE!!! Was very disgusted because we found raw meat in one of the dishes we ordered. The cooked meat itself had a weird sulfuric smell which certainly indicated that it was left for days and might’ve been spoiled. Went back to order their fish and chips, their bakery food was left overnight as we saw the same sandwiches displayed at the exact same spots. It appears that their bakery food is imported from elsewhere as it still had price tags from the original company. Really disappointed to see this as we expected fresh and quality food considering the large amount of money we had to pay for fried food and burgers. Theyre doing too much and bringing down the overall quality of their food. My husband and I believe that they need to stop trying so hard with different food categories when they can barely get one right. Definitely wont be back as we’re not impressed at all!! If I could rate it lower than 0 I seriously would as I feel really disgusted thinking about anyone else who would’ve experienced it without knowing.
Always a nice fresh feed at Clevedon Seafoods. It is out of our way but worth the drive.Snapper & Terakihi are always fresh – batter is cooked well & most often no grease at all. On the odd occasion when they’re busy there is some grease but not much. Served with lemon which is really the way to go.Oysters are also done to perfection.Chips are cooked well – thick cut chunky. Potato fritters appear to be made in house. Just thick enough & cooked well.Love their burgers – particularly the steak & cheese. They use thinly cut sirloin & then slice it into strips as it cooks. Has a delish flavour & the salsa that comes with the salad really makes it.Service is good – very prompt & efficient. There is also the option of eating in which is open but also undercover areas if the weather isn’t good.They also cook Chinese food, have bakery food (appears to be made on site), coffee & fruit flow yogurt/ice cream which appear popular – we haven’t tried this as yet.
The veggie burgers here are so good! A veggie pattie with satay sauce, tomato, lettuce and beetroot – it also comes with butter on the buns and mayo, which I get them to keep off to make it vegan. It’s so damned good!!! Really tasty and great to get such a nice burger from a standard takeaway bar. The chips aren’t done in scoops like a regular takeaway and are broken up into small, medium and large – sadly this means you’re not getting much for your money so we go to Clevedon Takeaways for chips. The burgers are great though, my vegetarian daughter and I get those and my husband LOVES the Beestie burger from there. While we get chips, potato fritters and my sons burger from up the road.
