Last weekend I was privileged to be invited to a food bloggers meet-up at Friday Im in Love and Im IN LOVE with their food! Upon entering, I was impressed by the interior and I loved the colourful furniture and decorations that were scattered in the caf. The caf is located on the bottom floor of the GHD building and away from other eateries in Herne Bay. However, it also does mean that a lot of free street-parking became readily available. It was quiet when we went, which was a Sunday morning. However, the caf was evidently busier past 11 oclock where more people have come in for their coffee for the day (with a muffin or two). Friday Im in Love boasts an amazing cabinet, with treats ranging from muffins, scones to banana breads and handmade melting moments. I couldnt take my eyes off but as I wasnt too hungry, I thought a main will be more than enough. I ordered a glass of fresh OJ to start with and it was pulpy and super refreshing! The brunch menu at FIIL is fantastic, whether youre looking for sweet or savoury, youll bound to find the one you love here. The coconut yoghurt granola and the French toast with dolce de leche sounded irresistible! Nevertheless, being a savoury kinda gal, my attention was quickly grabbed by the potato croquette, five spiced pork belly and bolognaise! I ended up going for bolognaise as Im a huge fan of its Italian brother. Luckily my friends got the other aforementioned dishes and I was able to get a taste of them too. The bolognaise was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. The mince was cooked to perfection, super rich in a tomato-based sauce and was punching with flavour. The bolognaise rested on a thick slab of rosemary Foccasia bread, which again, was buttered and toasted to give you 11/10 satisfaction with every bite. I liked the pairing broccoli and feel that there could actually be more vegetables/other sides to balance the dish out as it was delicious but super heavy! Nevertheless, the flavour was spot on and portion size definitely more than enough for one person. Thank you Friday Im in Love for an amazing brunch experience, youve truly got the power to make everyday a Friday, and one that Id love if that means eating brunch at FIIL for 3 hours. First up what a catchy name! At first this cafe is quite hard to find tucked in behind Freeman’s Bay School but it’s truly worth the effort..We ordered: French toast Five spice pork belly Bolognese Fenugreek potato crouquette Granola Green smoothie. My French toast was the best one I have ever had, the toast was like eating a fluffy cinnamon donut. They didn’t cheap out and offered a thick slice. The dolce de leche panna cotta was well rounded dessert in itself, I could eat a few of them. I loved how they managed to incorporate the dolce de leche into the panna cotta without the over powering sourness from a typical yogurt. The Anzac biscuit crumb, pear, cream and freeze dried fruit just pushed it to that gormet standard. For only $21 I will definitely come back for this!.The five spice pork belly was so unique, have never that Asian fusion combination of an eggs Benedict and braised pork belly. The pork belly was tender and melt in the mouth. While the egg was cooked to runny perfection..The granola was also a win for me. I didn’t expect myself to enjoy a cafe granola so much, it tasted like if you poured the crumbs from the bottom of an Anzac bag into a bowl with fruits and yogurt. Only thing I wish they provided some nut milk as it was a bit dry halfway through..The green smoothie was very chalky and watery, probably only thing I won’t order again. The bananas were perhaps too raw..I’m sure coming back for all the other food though, looking forward to more brunches here..Taste: Service: Price: Ambience:

A lively place, with fun cheery staff, great art, and beautifully tasty food. Our visit was made on the day of the week that was most guaranteed to make us fall in love with the place.. Friday that is… A very excellent selection of healthy and satisfying meal options as well as a fantastic range of cabinetry delights, including salads, scrumptious quiches and stuffed capsicums. As youd might expect with attractive qualities like these, this place gets mighty busy, meaning carparks are scarce and meal or even coffee wait times can take a little longer, however for a classic caf style lunch, wed have to say this is one of our faves.Check out our individual food reviews here: husk.co.nz/lunches/friday-im-in-love
