I had the Aotearoa Reuben sandwich, fried bread ice cream sandwich and a pohutukawa caramel milkshake. The milkshake was smooth, the sandwich was perfect for a chilly night, and the fried bread tasted fresh out the pan. There are a range of kiwiana books to read, and a wee history of the restaurants humble beginnings on the wall
Very happy we stumbled on this local gem. Beautiful fresh modern Mori food celebrating native ingredients that you don’t usually see on a menu. We’ve tried most of the menu and it’s all incredibly tasty. Awesome service and prices are reasonable too.

A unique eatery in Auckland’s sea of Asian fusion restaurants. Loved the concept of modern Maori cuisine served here, not only reflected in the food but in the decor and music playing. We tried the loaded fries, tua tua fritters, crispy chicken and raw fish salad. Fav was the loaded fries, generous amount of hangi cooked pork on top. Crispy chicken was a little lacking in flavour but the sauces that came with it are home made and so good. Completed the meal with a fried bread ice cream sandwich – winner of the night for me. The manuka caramel sauce was the perfect extra touch.
One night in Auckland so we decided to treat ourselves to some reka kai at newly opened eatery Ph & Pkeh. This is one of the few places in Auckland (NZ?) where you can eat Mori fusion food so we were really looking forward to it. Having come off a hikoi around the East Coast and then the Bay of Islands where we ate ourselves silly on raw fish, hangi, fried bread, boil-up (includng doughboys nom nom) at various marae, we were super curious to try P&P. And wow, they did not disappoint. From bite sized balls of kumera & coconut and pikopiko & edamame to tuatua fritters to a sensational steak sandwich on rewena, the kai was delicious! So much so that we went all in and ordered the rewena trifle as well, even though we were already well and truly stuffed 😉 This is a really clever blend of Mori elements with a modern twist, served up food truck style to deliver simple honest food that is full of heart. A shout out also for the look and feel of P&P – retro Mori with lots of fun pieces. Definitely feeling the kai
