Came here with a groupon voucher so had the big breakfast and salmon eggs Benedict with cappuccinos. The food was pretty good, nothing mind blowing but it was good. Fast service and nice interiors. It was a bit on the pricey side though and the menu is rather limited.
Visited Saturday around 12.30 the place was busy not super busy, they must have been short staffed as there was a 30 minute wait for meals ended up waiting 45 or more, empty tables were full of dirty dishes (Had to clear our table). Food was ok.
We were here for the Urban Sketch Group event in the Art Out East today. Grabbed a conically shaped savoury spinach and cheese scone with a refreshing grape lemon honey Power juice. Scone was lovely with butter. Lots of tables that have views to the street. Others were scattered inside the art centre. Lots of people coming and going. Will look out for a future show in the auditorium. It was nice to be inside as it rained.
Portuguese indian cuisine whose menu teases but does not deliver. All dishes lacked the punch of fresh goan spices. We had the interesting prawn balchao bao with tinned jackfruit – quite different, the beef slider with a onion bhaji instead of a raw onion ring, the pulled pork n prawn empanadas n the lamb shoulder which was suposed to be in chettinad flavors – and i am sure that i could barely taste any coriander nor red chilly in the dish – the bases of chettinad cuisine. And after all this i could not take a pic of the gulab jamun cheesecake cause it was just pink sweet rose flavored cream cheese piped onto a plate looking all pretty but where oh where was the gulab jamun? Utterly disappointed.. giving it a 3 cause the quality is good and better than the usual indian takeaway
Have been to this restaurant in its old location several times.Thought to try the new location..Ita mainly a cafe style restaurant and gets cold on a cold evening if you are seated by the glass .Service was ok as there was only one waitress serving 7 tables…Entree s were the lamb kabab which was apicey and very tasty and the nutter chicken taco was spicey too but had wonderful flavours.Mains were the fish of the day which was hapuka..Not many flavours on this dish which i was expecting, came with stir fried carrots and brussel sprouts and a tamaotoe sala but it all just lavked the exciting flavours from the entrees..The slow cooked lab was very nice and had curry base with yoghurt. This was a very nice dish. Finally desserts were gulab jamun cheese cake, bit confused if this was a deconstructed cheesecake and was overly sweet. The mango parfait was tasty with the freez dried berries..Overall ok meal with a fusion on indian flavours.
In terms of outlook, the cafe seems nice. It’s located within the hall of the uxbridge building. So within the complex there are some nice art works in the adjacent rooms which you can have a look after your meal. Now on to the cafe and it’s food. There are very limited cabinet food available. When I was here this morning. There was only vegetable quiche, few types of muffin, and maybe 2 or 3 sweet items. The cooked meals are also quite limited. I think 70% of the lunch meal are salads. If you are a health conscious person, then I guess this is a place for you. Otherwise those who are not, you might want to have a second thought about this place. This place is owned by the owner of Xacuti (I think), so you will find most food served here will carry a hint of Indian style. Both my dad and my mum had the omelette and my dad said the eggs were abit spicy. I had the beef slider, for $19, I felt the portion rather small. There were 2 sliders, and maybe 8-9 pieces of fries there. Overall the food is a bit more expensive than most other cafe you find in howick and the taste is probably average at most.
This is something different! If you looking for a change from a usual – this is the place to go to!Just the atmosphere here is relaxing without the food. But get some coffee and appetite will come!
