best dish we had was soft shell crab tempura. other dishes were just up to expectation. very standard type of Japanese foods served there. not a bad place as neighborhood casual dinner out.
Came along for lunch a week or so ago with a mate. I myself am not a massive fan of Japanese food but was blown away by their food, it was so good. Definitely the best Japanese cuisine I’ve ever had. The waiters/waitress’ were friendly and nice as well. However it wasn’t the greatest service I’ve ever had, but it didn’t hinder the lovely experience I had.
Mairangi Japanese cuisine is tucked away at the back of green gable. I love interior of this restaurant only thing they dont have is air conditioning. However lunch is such a good deal $17 for really satisfying bento. I had teriyaki chicken bento- chicken was battered then glazed with sauce was ok but salad, mixed tempura, sashimi and mini sushi were amazing. Miso soup was good and service was excellent.
Food: great food! One of the more authentic Japanese restaurants, offering a good selection of sashimi and sushi that dont involve large chunks of white rice.Service: service is great, the waiters are responsive to call buttons and the wait for food is not long. Good for kids?: Yes! They have kids bowls and utensils. Kids can feast on edemame, udon noodles, chicken on rice, etc.
This little restaurant is a gem in a beautiful village square. The place was packed so you need to book. Stared with sushi (love roll) and fried dumplings, both very yummy. So glad I found a place that serves normal sushi instead of these huge ones packed with rice. Mains was a mixture of goodies on their mixed platter and a hot pot. The platter was good as it offered a taste of everything. The hot pot not so great, I was expecting a tastier broth and better noodles. The noodles were thick and stodgy. Service was amazing. Will definitely go back!
Lovely food the owners are sweet really a great night. Sushi I had was great as well as the tempura and teriyaki chicken was delicious. beautiful restaurant and really nice decor definitely recommend.
We regularly go to Mairangi Japanese. The food is always of an excellent standard andthe portions are a good size. All cooked dishes are perfectly cooked. There is a good range of Japanese beer which is always served in cold glasses.
