Was excited to try this new dumpling joint which has opened up at the Morningside Precinct. Down a little festoon-strung alleyway, the ambience here is certainly a slight step above your normal dingy dumping joint. I ordered the special pan fried vege & egg dumplings and my friend got the steamed vegan dumplings. I was impressed with the size of the morsels, although they were $10 for 6 so youd expect the size to be generous for the price. The filling wasnt bad, but it didnt have the most exciting flavour. I could mostly just taste cabbage to be honest, and I couldnt really detect any egg in the mix. For vege dumplings, they werent bad, but certainly werent anything wow, particularly for the price.
Nothing speaks of summer more than tangy, icy-cold ciders by Morningcider (best intended pun in history we reckon) and juicy, luscious dumplings from Bos with memorable pieces of wall-art to boot. The dumpling wrappers are much more substantial than some of the translucent varieties, hallmarks of their northern chinese influence, and you can choose to have them steamed or pan-fried (crispy all the way, we say) at 10 bucks for 6 pieces, its pretty dang worth it. Needless to say, there is now a well worn path on the 30 second walk from our door to theirs.Check out our individual food reviews here: husk.co.nz/lunches/morningcider-bos-dumplings
There was a lot of write up about this place. I was kinda excited to try this due to the hype. The dumplings were filled nicely with lots of fillings. however there are a few problems. The skin is a bit too thick. There are too much gravy inside the dumplings which caused the skin to become soggy and doughy. The fillings tasted the same for all 3 types of dumplings we ordered and were not as flavoursome as I hoped for. Good marketing but the execution missed the mark by a little.
