I really like it here, so clean and tidy and really good customer service limited menu but made up for with all the care and attention you receive
We discovered this place on a rainy afternoon. It didn’t look too appealing from the outside but once your inside, everything is actually neat and cosy. While the sushi in the cabinet looked great, we were hesitant as they seem to have been made earlier in the day and has had no interests in. My partner finally decided on the udon while I ordered the chicken katsu curry on rice and salad. Here, you are required to pay when you order the food. The lady at the till was quick to take our order and soon disappeared into the kitchen. We assume she was the only person working. The food arrived within 15 minutes. It was neatly presented but the cutlery and bowls used were plastic. It is a small takeaway with seatings just enough for over 5 people so I would understand why there is no need for real cutlery. My katsu curry was really good with all the spices in place. Portions were huge for the price. The salad came as a bonus and was neatly presented. My partner’s udon soup was quite huge too. They had all the the crucial ingredients that the broth should have and also some added greens which seems to be unique to the shop as I have never had that twist elsewhere. The downside to our meal was the added greens. While they looked and tasted good, it is quite noticeable that they are pre-frozen garden veges. For the price of what they charge($10-$15) I would expect the veges to be fresh ones or not have them at all.We didnt order any drinks but the coffee and drinks menu looked really interesting.Overall it is a neat little place for a quick lunch and we will come back to try the coffee menu.
I come for the Korean chicken – it’s spicy and delicious. Highly recommend, especially if you can get it hot!Old review (under old owner)The owner of Joy Sushi is so lovely. I often get my kids the $5 lunch packs for their school lunches. You can get either teriyaki chicken on rice, or chicken katsu on rice – both come with a small coleslaw on the side. Good value and my kids really enjoy it!You buy sushi by the piece and there are also options for hot food.A good place to eat in Mt Albert village when you don’t feel like Chinese food.
