Had the Egg Hopper and starting to think meat is overrated as hell because every vegan or vegetarian meal I have at caf’s or restaurants seem to slay me each time.Back to the Egg Hopper, everything from the egg, Sambol, tamarind yoghurt and chilli catchup made one burst of Sri Lankan goodness in my mouth. Talk about flavour! Was jealous my boss had mango chutney and sexy Haloumi with his Chilli Paneer, which looked just as good. He gave me some of it and damn that was some good cheese and chutney.DEFINITELY GO AND TRY AND THIS PLACE FAMS! Ugh! I’m coming back!
The egg hoppers are so delicious, could quite happily eat that every day! Great little spot with lovely people too, will definitely be visiting again.
It’s a stretch to call this place Sri Lankan, as there is nothing authentic about the food here… However, the fusion of Sri Lankan and Western flavours wasn’t bad. I visited the other day with two friends who had never tried Sri Lankan food before. We had three hoppers between us: The cashew curry hopper (which I had), the fried egg hopper, and the scrambled egg hopper. I thought the cashew curry was a bit bland and the hopper was slightly underdone in the middle, but it was ok overall. My friends enjoyed their egg hoppers. Our main gripe was the price and serving size… Each hopper costs about $15, and you would need at least 2 to fill you up. At home, I would usually eat about 3 hoppers (most people can eat about 5) with a selection of curries, so the idea of spending $15 for just one seems crazy to me…especially given how cheap they are to make. If you are interested in a more authentic Sri Lankan experience, there are a few cheap and cheerful places around Auckland that do hoppers at a much more reasonable price (e.g., 7 Siri in Sandringham). They’re not as insta-worthy though, and you may need to step out of your hipster comfort zone!
This Restaurant got some unique dishes but unfortunately not belong to Sri Lankan Authentic food group, please be aware that food is tasty but hoppers ware the only sri Lankan food there. if you want to try Sri Lankan food I will not recommend this restaurant
