Came here yesterday for lunch and ordered vegan pad thai and spring rolls. Pad thai was bland and very oily and I felt the noodles may have been over cooked as it was really soggy and soft which reminded me of overcooked soggy instant noodles. Spring rolls were small and very crunchy. Overall everything was okay nothing exciting. I would not eat from here again.
THE FOODOLOGIST RATING:-FOOD:-4/5 (Very Well Cooked , Well balanced , sweet, sour and spicy the essence of Thai Food)SERVICE:-3.5 /5 (Thai Aunt Like Feel, Fast, Efficient, Self Service )AMBIANCE:- 2/5 (Food Court, pick your seat , School Tray Lunches)CLEANLINESS:- 4/5 (Very Clean, For the food Court , Food Court Is Run Down)VALUE FOR MONEY :- 4/5(reasonably priced)FOOD POCKET DAMAGE:-*****/*****(Cost For Two :- $20)THE FOODOLOGIST REVIEW:-If you have been to Thailand and eaten real Thai food you would know that Thai food is not only red and green curry and pad Thai there is a lot more authentic foods out there from Thailand which i like rather than the westernized versions of the cuisine .This place is also located in the mercury plaza was sad to hear that they would be pulling the place down . Hope these vendors get a place some place else . So as it is the Mercury plaza food court there is no ambiance to it just a table and a chair and food severed on a tray . The restaurant as a board which say Thai Cuisine and i must say i was surprised for a food court stall they had some good range of Thai dishes besides the regulars .They still however do serve a mix of other Asian cuisines like Singaporean food and Malay food Mee Siam The chicken stay etc. I went to place the order and the lady was like a typical Thai aunt the service was warm and friendly . I ordered the Thai fish cakes the fish cake were nice and firm and in one piece . It had good flavors but the fish did not taste fresh but sometimes they do use canned tuna . I had even ordered the Thai Spicy Beef Salad & Pad See Ew and asked the lady to make it a bit more spicy . The salad the beef was cooked well is was a mixture of sweet sour and spicy just how Thai cuisine should be . The pad see ew I had taken the chicken which was equally good less sweet and more spice ,this dish contains soy sauce and was very well balanced as sometimes it could make it salty not this time .I must say it was a really good experience and I have become a regular and will definitely go back until they are open . For a food court it was good quality food made well and keeping in mind the Thai taste and cuisine .
My fave dish is the fresh spring rolls mmmm yum!Its a shame the plaza will be closed in the upcoming year or so hopefully Ruang Thong will reopen elsewhere
Curry puffs are the best and these were definitely delicious 🙂 the sauce they were served with seemed more like Thai sweet chili than a homemade sauce but still deliciously sweet. We also had Tom yum soup for $10 which was confusing as it was served with a mound of rice ? It wasn’t really a meal so that seemed out of place. It also had coconut cream added which wasn’t that great. I like the normal version better though it was still a decent hot soup for a cold day. Ambiance in the Mercury plaza is sticky and run down but still a relaxed place to chill out. Just FYI hygiene rating was D – not the best sign but still very popular.
This this spot. Fast service.I usually get their Pad Thai and in my opinion it’s very good! Also tried their satay chicken which was okay. They also offer self service condiments which a bonus.
This is a bit of a hidden gem when it comes to food. Big portions of beautiful fresh food and staff are genuine and welcoming. Price wise really good to. But just the place it’s in needs a serious upgrade. Really dirty and old. Shame! Hopefully owners get around to a renovation soon.
I don’t particularly like the Thai food here, I ordered a green curry and it tasted so strange, it was watered down and didn’t have the strong taste of coconut cream/milk in it. It also came out in about 10 seconds, so I doubt the food is that fresh.
