MASTERFUL. Hailing from Masterchef NZ 2015 as a finalist and fan favourite, Leo Fernandez blesses Auckland once again with his newly opened restaurant, Melting Pot. This has become my favourite Filipino restaurant, so if youve struggled to find good ones like me, this is definitely the one you have to try! Drawing inspiration from traditional dishes and adding a touch of masterful modernity, Melting Pot offers a menu where each dish has an array of flavours that seem intricate, yet they perfectly compliment each other. More importantly, the portions are generous and great value for money!I would highly recommend trying their entrees, especially the Crab Buntaa (soft shell crab) which was so crispy and juicy, matched with a delicious buntaa sauce and coconut curd. Even the Pinsec Fritos, Siomai, and Tokwat Mushroom were all amazing, each demonstrating culinary ingenuity with their divine sauces that fuse flavours youd never imagine work so well.My favourite main was the Tiyula Itum (beef bone marrow, papad chimichurri – first photo). Now Im a huge fan of bone marrow, but this was probably the best way Ive seen it be prepared – submerged in a hearty pot packed with rich and savoury flavours, all with underlying tones of aromatic herbs and spices that left a refreshing after-taste instead of the usual sickening oiliness. The Filipino Style Pork BBQ was also really good and is one of those safe dishes you can always order knowing everyone will love it.Then for dessert, the Biko Balls I had were unreal. The dish covered all dimensions of flavours and textures – definitely a must try! This is getting long and Ive never reviewed a restaurant with so many dishes I liked, so instead of me writing all day, let me leave the rest to you and try it for yourselves! Located near the Panmure roundabout with the friendliest staff and plenty of parking.
