Run by family for many many years, you get a friendly service from the owners and their kids. Food reminds me of traditional home cooking, not super tasty as if msg was added, but not so bland that you know you just cook better at home. Hits and misses with different menu items, but mostly enjoyable. I strongly recommend ordering ala carte instead of their buffet. Their takeaway is somehow not as good as dining in either. Decor is very old, needs a revamp! But when we eat during dinnertime, they put on air-conditioning so it feels comfortable. Our lil picky eater actually enjoys eating here because she feels like at home with the staff being very attentive to her. We have been back many a times, and will still do so to support local businesses.

If i could rate this resturant any lower I would. DISCUSTING!!!!!!There were baby cockroaches on the desert table and not just one strand of hair but a couples pieces of hair in the prawns. Wouldn’t recommend this resturant to anyone. DO NOT COME HERE

This was quite average to be honest it was a basic smorghesboard and at $25 per head (which I thought was pretty high to be honest) the selection was standard and the food really really bland. Obviously theyre catering for a core market of families with childreb who dont like a whole lot of taste but for adult couples youd be better with takeaways. But what incensed me the most was when I asked (for my $25) if we could take our desert away in a doggy bag rather than eat it (because we were full) they said no and that wed have to buy a whole new desert from the menu, which for $25 (remembering we harnt yet eaten the desert off the buffet but wanted to take it home, for $25 in Papakura and they cant even do that?? Not to meneion that the food was as bland as hell? I would not recommend this place and probably wont go there again!!!

Good old ruby. Have been going here on and off for 10 years plus. Nothing has changed one bit. The food the tables the serving station even the outdated tape player. But still a good no stress atmosphere and you always leave full after the smorgasbord. Staff are lovely and caring. Most of the food is pretty good especially the bbq pork and crispy chicken.

Save your money and go elsewhere. We ordered the banquet and were totally disappointed. Dinner plates were given to us still wet from dishwasher. Food was tasteless. Most of the dishes had been over thickened with cornflour. Soup was like wallpaper glue. BBQ pork was reheated and dry, definitely not freshly made. Left hungry. Decor dated and dirty.

We had Chinese for dinner tonight and it was absolutely disgusting!! Got all the way home and served up to find the chips weren’t cooked and the fried rice was the worse fried rice we have ever eaten!! We ordered the fanily pack for 4-6 people wasted $45 tonight! New Ruby is our local but we will be finding a new restaurant to go to. We rung up to complain about the food, the women was extremely rude and didn’t care. Very disappointing!!! Would not recommend.

Been to the ruby many times over the years and have always loved the garlic prawns and scallops. Recent visit was dissappointing though. The garlic prawns were nothing like they used to be and were quite bland. Bring back the old recipe/chef!
