The naan, all the curries my family ordered and the onion bhaji were all amazing. Up there with the best Indian I’ve ever had and lots of vegetarian/ vegan options!

In short, perfect. We’ve had takeaway from here 3 times now, and it’s been good each time. Sauces are tasty, meat is tender, and the naan was great. The Tandoori chicken is genuinely excellent, so it’s even possible to eat healthily here.I’m a relatively new import from the UK, where I used to eat curry 1-2 times a week. While NZ is for me hands-down a better place than the UK, my wife and I had previously not enjoyed the taste of the curries in NZ at all, and I’ve missed them.Add to that that the way that Indian kitchens usually process the orders seems to be different here. I’m allergic to nuts: give me enough (say half a peanut), and I’m in hospital; cross-contaminate sauces a little, and I just feel sick all night. Before Urban Spice opened up, with the exception of Spice Traders in Devonport (and Oh Calcutta 10 years ago), every Indian restaurant I’ve been to in NZ has cross-contaminated. Chatting to an owner in Botany, they apparently have the sauces in bowls and use the same ladle between orders. For comparison, I’d never get caught out in the UK.Naturally, that had diminished my love of curry! So I’m very happy to have found a place that both tastes great, and has consistently not triggered my allergy.
