This place is lovely! The guy serving us did not look hugely happy, but the food was delicious nevertheless. We came for fish and chips takeaway. The fried fish pieces were so huge that half of us could not finish them! The batter was on the thicker side – but I personally like eating batters so didn’t not mind. The hoki they used were nice and firm too.The chips were also on point – perfectly golden and crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. For the 5 of all it only costed a grand total of $26 (for 5 fish and 3 chips to share), which was totally worth it.The ideal place for takeaway on a summer beach day!
The worst ever fish and chips I have ever had- period. $30 for three pieces of hoki two snapper and $7 chips that looked like $2 worth… Tasted like rubber – horrible- never going back – rip off yuck off
Stick to the Chinese food which is okay (nothing amazing but it does the job if your hungry and need a quick meal), the typical kiwi takeaways like Fish & Chips/Burgers, etc, is below par here. A few times I’ve seen them put what looks like pre-cooked or frozen fish into the deep fryer, which explains why the fish and anything battered tastes so below par. Likewise with the sweet and sour chicken/pork, they seem to pre-cook it with the batter on then give it a final fry when you order, which doesn’t lead to a very good quality of meat.Service isn’t very friendly, which I think is mainly down to a lack of English. Whilst waiting for an order I saw one poor guy (an elderly man) not get the dish he ordered (via phone) as they cooked him something different, they then argued with him and refused to redo the dish unless he paid extra which I thought was very poor service. If I’m in the area and want Chinese it does the job, but it’s a little below average and not something I’d be going out of my way to get.
My favourite place in Auckland for Chinese takeaways – best fried rice, chow mein, sweet & sour pork and the best spring rolls and won tons. Love their food. They are always busy though, call first. Have eaten here for decades – same people cooking and no complaints, great place.
My family has been going to Cheung Hing for decades. We highly recommend the Nasi Goreng, Chicken Fried Rice, Chicken Chow Mein and Sweet and Sour Pork Wontons. Drooling just thinking about it.On the other hand, the busy staff don’t have the best customer service. Also, the fish and chips aren’t great. $3 chips is the minimum and it’s not that many. But their Chinese and Thai is great: always hot and always super fast.
Lovely fresh fish and chips. Very friendly staff. We plan to make this our local. Thank you.
pity no menu on-line. Will have to try elsewhere
