Definitely an over rated place by far. I was super disappointed in this place after reading some raving reviews. I ordered two fillets of terakihi, the girl tried to charge me more to grill it and they werent that fresh. Upon arrival you arent greeted, the lack of customer service in this place is ridiculous. The staff were just a bunch of teen girls who were chatting amongst themselves and for the most part not up the front serving people. The redeeming factor that took this place from a 1 to a 2.5 was the girl who brought my fish out to me and was really friendly and polite. Once I got home to eat my fish I found it smelt really fishy which to me shows its not that fresh. Super disappointed after reading some great reviews but if you dont need gluten free I dont recommend coming here
By far the best fish and chip shop in hibiscus coast for gluten free options cheers guys. Will be coming back more often and friendly staff.
Great takeaway food for GF eaters, even got our diagnosed picky eater eating a Hot Dog! my advice to the other reviewers below is to steer clear of the crumb, ends up quite chewy and crunchy definitely shows they are not a gluten intolerant or allergy sufferer. All other food is awesome and comparable to ANY of the takeaways in the area.
Like others this is the best fish and chip shop I’ve been to for a long time. I can’t understand the bad review either. Cannot help but wonder at their motives! It sure doesn’t deserve a low rating. My family is ceoliac and we go out of our way to buy food here. The burgers are the BEST GF burgers around according to my sons, and at $7 per burger are pretty good value. The fish and chips are delicious. I am not GF and I agree with others, the fish is fresh, the batter is thin, crispy and melt in the mouth, better than any other wheat based batter I’ve tasted. I hope they keep their prices reasonable so that we can keep visiting often!
UPDATED: my original review raves about this place but after a couple of average meals afterwards we dont go to this place anymore. Now you can tell the fish isnt that fresh and the portions are quite small compared to what they charge. Quality doesnt match the prices anymore. Our go to is now the one in Red Beach (by the bakery). Proper large fillets, crispy, not that oily and always consistently good. ORIGINAL: Been going to this place since it opened (doesn’t help that we live nearby, can’t go too often!). You can go to any fish and chip/takeaway shop to get your bog standard fish and chips and pay for what you get (it’s cheap, nothing special, fills you up). This store stands out for me, the fish is always fresh and the batter is incredibly crispy and not greasy. The burgers are good too, the fresh ingredients are actually fresh. Been here many times and haven’t had a bad meal yet! The prices don’t bother me either. For what you get, I think it’s worth it.
Amazing fish and chips – and all coeliac safe gluten free, such a treat as our daughter is coeliac and we usually can’t trust anywhere to eat out. Even if you aren’t gluten free the food is the best ever. Not greasy at all, delicious. Can’t understand the bad review above at all!
Worst chip shop on coast.Went here thinking positive,after revealing what 50dollars! Got us, was extremely upset.Two burgers,two snapper crumbed,scallop fritter, 3chickn nuggets, chips,sausage,two prawn fingers…anywhere else 30,40bux.Burgers were crap, Patties gross, whole Lotta lettuce..fish wasn’t fresh and well over cooked, crumb coating had to take off, was that un eatable, scallop fritter was 9bux, all I got was alot of grey overcooked egg,that was bland and rubbery,with 4 little bits of rubbery scallop..was furious.Prawn fingers were well burnt and dry and had essence of prawn, don’t think had real prawn, very small amount..Rather than go back and complain, easier to just never go back, price crazy, food horrible, service polite,but very slow..1nce bitten twice shy. Sorry but save your money and time, avoid this place.
