One of the three options for a meal if youre in the zoo and you dont want to have to leave in order to eat.Service: 3/10They seemed super rushed to serve us and didnt give us much time. It took quite a long time for them to make one dish even though there were barely any people.Food: 7/10I ordered the chicken cheese and guacamole quesadilla, two pies and a hot chocolate. The quesadilla was hot and fresh but it was small and wasnt filling. There wasnt a lot of cheese or chicken. The pies were hot and crunchy, the inside was super tasty just like any pie from the bakery. The hot chocolate was pretty good and was foamy on top.Ambiance: 6/10There are a bunch of windows to allow the beautiful sunshine in and lets you see the beautiful zoo without the noise and wind. The cafe didnt really for aesthetic purposes and looks more like a takeaway.
Came in for lunch today after visiting the zoo animals. Got a caramel carrot cupcake and a crispy dog. Caramel crispy dog sauce was absolutely delicious. The chicken was crispy and the hot dog bun was nice too. The caramel carrot cupcake was moist and wasn’t as dense as I thought it would be. Icing wasn’t too sweet either. The price was not too expensive compared to an average cafe.
Really really cheap! Price wise that is. Great wedges, greats salads. Their pies are freshly baked too. The high calorie selection is very good. And not overpriced!$5 for wedges, $3.50 for an eggplant stack! Dont need to picnic or eat before you go to the zoo. Just eat at the zoo!Service: 4/5Food Quality: 4/5Food Quantity: 4/5Presentation: 4/5Environment: 4/5Price per person: $10
I love the Zoo.Cheetahs, Giraffes, Elephants, Tasmanian Devils and Giant Tortoises whats not to love about the Zoo? Its awesome to see so many diverse Kiwi families around, there laughter and chatter combined with the concoction of chirping birds and buzzing insects a fantastic symphony of sounds that signals a bustling day at the Zoo.Doing some work for the Zoo which requires me to be on-site for 2-3 days a week, I wanted to see how the food at the Zoo was.Darwins has a nice lay out, starting from the left as you enter, there is a Beveridge freezer that is strangely stocked with only Charlie branded beverages, a cool salad bar, hot bar and a caf directly opposite the main entrance.Being intransigence with the quality of food at captive markets e.g. Airports, Events. I was determined to test the to test that kind of stigma. Going for an adventurous selection of Steak and Mushroom Pie, I will admit the pie was better than expected, rich gravy, good amount of steak & mushroom pieces. Really enjoyed my meal, although leaning towards heavier price range. The Darwin caf is joyous spot to stop and have a little snack as you continue your exploration of one of Aucklands favorite spots.Showstopper: Pie was fantasticOverall Grade: B
Functional but friendly venue in the zoo. Pleasant place to escape the rain on an Auckland day – range pretty basic but food was fine. Coffee service was slow with an unusual ordering system – order then pick up from another area when your electronic card beeps.
