Situated in Wynyard Quarter, the place has a nice vibe to it, with lots of potential, music was definitely too loud, I couldnt even hear the person sitting next to me. Definitely left feeling a little disappointed in all honesty.Firstly service was a little lacking, we noticed that other tables seemed to have happier waiters, but they seemed to ignore us – didnt really ask us how the food was, would just put the plates of food down say what it was and leave. (Not to mention also forget items off of our ordered dishes).Secondly, the food was coming out at such a slow pace, we sat there for 20 minutes after finishing our entrees before we received half of our mains. Thirdly, the food didnt really seem to be Pacific Asian fusion, some of the dishes felt like regular food with one fusion ingredient i.e karaage chicken (which typically is in larger pieces) we were served popcorn chicken with sriracha mayo.I did however enjoy the Beef Bulgogi Tataki – it felt like a creative way of combining two different dishes and was executed well. I also thoroughly liked the Ika mata was delicious – wished we had ordered more of this! Also loved their pineapple mock tail, the cardamom is a very unique flavour and tasted delicious.Overall thought it was a nice place to come for drinks with a little bite to eat on the side, not sure if it was worth the long wait, might come back another time and see if its improved.Food: 3/5Ambience: 4/5Service: 2/5
Came on a Friday evening for dinner. Great fit out, cool lamp shades and nice seating. The music playing was too loud and not really suitable for dining, more drinking/bar music. I had the yakitori tofu salad, the slaw was great, loved the dressing. Didnt like the tofu though, it had a smokey taste and would have been much better served with a sauce, like satay. Wouldnt choose this place if your after a relaxed dining experience but if youre out for a drink down Wynyard Quarter then worth checking out.
Operated by the same owners as One Tree Grill, the Good Luck Coconut was definitely not a disappointment. The massive restaurant is divided into a bar and dining area. Super friendly staff. Exquisite decor bringing a pacific vibe to the restaurant.Food are exceptionally good. Especially the entrees, which were well presented and great mix of flavours. Food were also quick to serve.Would definitely revisit!Food: 8/10Food presentation: 9/10Service: 9/10Location: 10/10Ambience: 10/10Price $70 per person (excl alcohol)
We booked lunch at The Good Luck Coconut on a Saturday and the restaurant was relatively empty but felt warming at the same time. The interior is beautifully decorated and themed, all complete with a tiki hut bar. We ordered a couple of their cocktails to start and the waiter was very friendly. One of my friends has been away from New Zealand for a while, and she loved the poke and fries in particular. The beef was also perfectly cooked/seasoned while the chicken karaage was another crowd pleaser. The prawns looked the nicest and best presentation however could have more flavour. We really enjoyed our experience and will be coming back!
Good Luck Coconut is the perfect place for a Hawaiian theme party – just like the one we had. I’ve organised an event for 40 people and wanted a restaurant to cater to our group, without having all of them to just sit and chat with the person beside them the whole evening. Thus, Nick (TGLC) suggested a fantastic space with high tables/chairs for the group so they could mingle and eat from any table.Food was amazing.. great portions and delicious.Based on experience, when we have any finger food dinner, the guys will still be hungry after dinner.. however, this time at Good Luck Coconut, everyone had a great dinner and enjoyed themselves that evening.P/S: the only thing to improve on is the Pina Colada. Heard a couple of feedback from our group regarding their welcome drink – ‘could have been better’. Other than that, all is well. Thanks again for hosting us.
I was pleasantly shocked at how busy they were on a Thursday after work! The front area almost looked like there was some event happening! We had a nice spacious seated area around the back next to their fireplace.Very relaxing tiki-pacific style interior decor. From ‘RAW’ we got Tataki Beef. From ‘SMALL’ we got Pork Ribs. From their MAINS we got the Taro Leaf wrapped Chicken Breast and their Steak Fillet.Food arrived incredibly prompt and beautifully presented!- The Tataki was incredibly delicious, with punchy smoky flavours and well-seasoned. Thick, generous cuts of rare beef that was super juicy and tender. The charcoal rice crisps on the side was a nice touch! The citrusy jam was the perfect way to balance out the heavy smokiness of the tataki and takes your taste buds to the pacific beach.- Pork Ribs were nicely smoked, albeit the meat was a bit too hard and was not falling off the bone as I’d hoped for. Makes for a great appetite-opening as it makes you yearn for better food to come!- Taro Leaf Chicken was well-seasoned and was cooked to perfection; none of that dry hard-to-swallow texture. Mushrooms were creamy and saucy and we mopped this plate clean.- Ribeye Steak was again top-notch! Thick juicy fillet on beautifully grilled eggplant and vegetables. The sauvignon gastrique sauce is To. Die. For! Intricate blend of earthy flavours and I was mopping this sauce up with anything I could find from other dishes.Service was amazing from a lean tanned man with a beard; who looked familiar and definitely highly experienced. I didn’t try any of their famous tiki-bar cocktails, but word has it that they are definitely worthy trying! This is the perfect bustling place to be on a hot summer day in Auckland by the waterfront!
3.5/5 Rating.Beautifully plated food with decent sized portions. Some of the plates could have had a bit more on it though. It was pretty with the sauces and things but pretty empty.Overall quite a good dining experience. The staff were friendly and the food was served relatively quick. Nothing really stuck out as a favorite though.
