For what it is (a quick and easy Chinese takeaway) this place is great! Now I’m somewhat of a seasoned connoisseur when it comes to cheap Chinese takeaways, so I know my stuff. We tried this place whilst passing through Rotorua one time and were pleasantly surprised. We bought a $30 Combo – sweet n sour pork, combination rice and combination chow mein – together with a complimentary 1.5ltr drink – score! The pork was wicked, crisp tasty batter coated pork pieces (actual meat – not just the fat with a nipple of meat hidden in batter – as some nasty takeaways do) in a mild sweet n sour sauce. The chow mein was flavoursome and included a generous amount of meat. The veges were also tasty and cooked just enough to retain a good texture – not soggy and mushy. The rice dish too had plenty of meat and was lightly fried – not dripping in oil. All three dishes were cooked fresh and generously filled their containers. More than enough to feed 2 adults and 2 kids. So overall I was one happy hippo and would certainly recommend this place. If you’re in the market for something more refined or traditional – a la steamed, clay pot, yum cha etc – then you’ll do well to drive on. This is primarily ‘westernised’ chinese served with a copious helping of happiness.
We tried this takeaway & although the food was cooked well, the taste of it was bland. I had the Mongolian beef, which came under the HOT part of the menu, I love spice & asked for extra chili. Although I was very disappointed that the meal was in fact bland, no spice at all. My partner ate the Cantonese beef with noodles & again was very bland. We have definitely had better sorry to say!
