Grabbed 2 pies (which are supposed to be made fresh everyday) from the hot food cabinet, were cold. Talked to the staff, they just put them in the microwave heated up for us. Very disappointed.
Went there for lunch. Didn’t have much interaction with the staff, food selection is limited and absolutely over priced for what you actually get. Wasn’t wowed by the entire experience nor the flavour of the food.
I liked it! Overpriced and nothing amazing (we got some coffees and I also picked up a scone from the cabinet) but it’s right by the lake and on the right day you’ll get sun streaming in while you sit by the window. We stopped here after a big day of driving so it was a nice break, worth it for the premium prices. Comfy sofas too.
Came here to enjoy the sun when we were visiting rotorua. The food selection was limited and tasted average. The beers and cider were just generic pub selections which you can’t really complain about. Good location though
The back story: One of the only eating establishments located by the beautiful Lake Rotorua, this one was hard to miss. With no other cafes in the immediate area, we decided to pop in and try this.Setting: The old delapidated looking signage out front cast some doubt in my mind as to the quality of the food. The place looked old and run down from outside. Yet on approach, I could see they had nice outdoor tables with stained glass pictures and the interior looked a bit better than outside. I ventured in. The place is spacious with cabinet food on one side next to a smorgasbord / cafeteria style of hot food. An old faded blackboard on one side announced the specials. Even with the windows next to the Lake, I found the place dim inside. I couldn’t quite shake the old feeling. Food: The food display here is more like a bakery with a Dine in option or a school cafeteria. The hot meal options were lasagne and cottage pie that day. We considered the blackboard options – but with $22 for a big breakfast and $8.50 for a toastie , it seemed to pricey. The bakery options of pies and slices seemed a bit more reasonable and we settled on a jam and cream scone and carrot cake. The scone had a very generous serving of cream topping – a little overpowering but the scone was fluffy and well done. The cake was also moist and well iced. We were therefore met with quite good tasting food despite our surroundings. Occassion: A good go to for takeaway sweet treats or a simple lunch near the water. With the million dollar views, it could do better with the interiors and food selection , though I suspect it doesn’t have to with its prime location, which may be what justifies its pricing for food. Revisit potential : 6 / 10
Food prices expensive, food quality average, Hot chocolate just water, fish and chips a rip off. won’t be returning. the location deserves better.
