My husband and I dined here last night and were extremely pleased by the wonderful customer service. Gretchen was our wonderful attendant and made the evening a very pleasant one. The food was exquisite – everything was perfectly cooked at the presentation was amazing, we had the forest mushroom starter and the beef fillet and lamb rumb as our mains, all were very tasty and left us quite full! We also managed to try the apple, pear and berry crumble for dessert which was also quite tasty. The decor and ambience were perfect for a romantic evening or lunch/dinner with family.
The restaurant at Regent used to be a great experience but tonight was just average. The garlic prawns and the interesting cinnamon goats cheese on wholemeal bread with red wine poached pear were excellent. With the mains the venison was perfectly medium rare, the duck was cooked exactly to order. But the vegetables on both mains were overcooked and the bread to start – well the menu says you get roasted garlic butter, it arrived without and on making this known we were told “oh yes I ordered the wrong bread” (the menu said both options came with the garlic butter) “but we can get you some roasted garlic” – and we received pan-fried garlic that was mostly raw. That taste is still in our mouths! A return visit is possible but not certain.
We dined here tonight and thoroughly enjoyed our time. The mains we ordered were delicious. It was difficult to find the ‘hero’ on the plate as everything was amazing. We were impressed with the decor, and the food definitely matches the luxurious interior design of the restaurant. The service tonight was fairly good. This restaurant should feature in a NZ interior design magazine. Thanks for an enjoyable night!
A lovely experience with an atmosphere of prestige.Amazingly presented meals and delicious flavours. Whilst the wine list was extensive, I was disappointed they did not decant the wine in front of me. A little suspicious of that. The wine unfortunately was past it’s best and was pleased that after the first few mouthfuls, we were not charged for it. Being a $90 bottle of wine, shows the staff were acknowledging of this. Not many non supermarket brands on their list and no Church roads wines from Hawkes Bay.A little more work to be done in the wine section with staff and protocol here. Would dine again, but will wait til next year
