Visiting Tauranga for AIMS competition, so a group of 9 of us visited on a Saturday night. They easily accommodated us – possibly because there was an AB’s test on that night and they don’t have a screen. Having said that, it was to our benefit given our late booking. Staff were very friendly, although menu/product knowledge not very comprehensive for some of the staff members. Food was good – very generous portions and came out quickly. Will definitely come back next time we are in town.

One of the best restaurants I have been to in a long time. Rye is so welcoming and calm inside! With its polite and attentive wait staff, it is a wonderful place to visit! The food is just as fantastic, with my favourite being the Waffles with Fried Chicken! We will defiitely be returning as soon as we can!

Quick note: menu is different and has different prices too. Platter didn’t come with jalapeno poppers or biscuits, it had mozzarella sticks and sourdough slices instead. Went here on a Saturday evening with a group of 7 reasonably hangry people – wasn’t too busy at all with plenty of tables. Service was immediately very accommodating and friendly as well as patient as our group pondered their options. Prices are on the high side as is the case for many American style restaurants. We decided to order two of their $50 platters for the table, 20 chicken wings ($20) and a bowl of fries ($7). The platter was a delicious mixture of golden things with barely a vegetable in sight (unless you count coleslaw in creamy sauce). My favourite part was the hot and crispy buttermilk friend chicken and the amazing mozzarella sticks. Sourdough was delish – super fresh, but not a generous serving at all for all the sauces and dips provided. What we did have was amazing with the jalapeno butter though! I found the spinach artichoke dip to just taste kind of like jalapenos in cream, wasn’t my favourite. Salmon was small but decently cooked. Corn chips were handmade and fresh. Pulled pork was decent, not as flavourful as expected or as soft and melt in the mouth as hoped. Our chicken wings were little nibbles with lots of sauce, both the BBQ and spicy were a bit spicy for me, but the table inhaled them so they must have been good. Fries were nice -shoestring McDonalds style, but I didn’t notice the garlic.Overall, a delicious experience. Not super filling for most at the table, just the girls were full – more bread would have been very welcome. Would recommend you check it out as the nights get colder as it was slightly pricey, yummy comfort food with a friendly ambience.

Haven’t tried everything else on the menu but the fried chicken burger just wants me to go back for more. Staff were friendly and helpful. Great place.

Came here with family – 6 adults and an 11 month old baby. Really impressed with how well we were looked after. The Southern chicken and the Jalapeno poppers were a hit! The dark chocolate dessert was so good also!

Asked for salad without dressing – got salad with dressing. Asked for a medium to well done steak – got a rare steak.Asked for fries without garlic – got garlic fries.Asked for chicken without mash and gravy – so instead of gravy on the mashed potatoes, it got poured on the chicken. Asked if the fries are gluten free in case they are floured – got told by waitress fries are made of potatoes. That’s great to know, thanks. As a side note, it would pay to put a water filter on the tap for people that just want to have water because the water in town tastes awful. My father who has lived in America for the last fifty years was disappointed that the food was not representative of American cuisine and there was limited American themed decor in the restaurant, excluding the American flag.So many things wrong it was just easier to pay and leave. Had very high hopes, especially after seeing all the very good reviews, but was just left with a bad taste in my mouth.
