What a great ambiance. I came here with a guest and we had the best lamb shank and chicken avocado. The selection of wine is quite vast and the service from the host were amazing. I’d surely come back and try the other dishes. So for those wanting a wholesome meal with a romantic feel, Amphora is the place to be!
Best food I’ve had at a restaurant in a while. I could not fault one thing, the cob loaf was amazing so hot and fresh with garlic butter, patè and balsamic vinegar. For the main I had the chicken Mignon that was absolutely delicious, desert we had he cheese cake and a Irish coffee overall was such a great night for my uncles birthday next time I come back to Tauranga I’ll definitely be coming back! A+++++
My wife & I dined there on Saturday 27th Sept to celebrate a friends birthday. My meal and my wife’s was good but unfortunately the entree (Retro Prawns) for one of the party was very short on prawn content (supposed to be 7 and she had 3) and the birthday girl had her main course overcooked (crispy). Perhaps being very busy was the reason as the restaurant was full??Still not good enough excuse. Must say that the staff were excellent, courteous and punctual. P.S – I had the salmon main and that was very nice!
First impressions aren’t always correct. When we sat down to use our grab one voucher the 80’s style drab decor made us a little apprehensive. Those apprehensions soon disappeared. The staff were friendly and attentive. The meals were superb. My lamb shank fell off the bone accompanied by a rich well seasoned sauce. The vegetables were well cooked. Katy had a beautiful moist duck confit. Will be going back
We went to amphora this evening after being given a $50 gift voucher and had a lovely meal. We took our 2 year old daughter and were the first people there for an early dinner. Despite not having a booking we were seated and served quickly. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating- they were happy to tweak the menu to cater to a toddlers tastes, and her meal was perfect. The grown ups meals were perfectly cooked and delicious and came with all the trimmings so were reasonably priced.
We popped in for a late night snack before heading home from The Strand on a Friday evening. We ordered the ‘chefs special’ vegetarian pizza to share (with home made base).Very poor and very small for $20+, base undercooked and basically a limp salad dumped on top of said base with a couple of olives (with stones!!) hidden in it.needless to say we won’t be going back any time soon. 🙁
The mini mezze was shocking, 4 pieces of feta (standard yuk feta) and 5 olives along with stale garlic croutes. About 15 croutes to fill you up and not nicely presented. Oh and I forgot the blob of tomato sitting in the middle of the plate. The tasting platter was a bad mess of what I can only describe as half hearted attempt at a Mediterranean style platter that frankly I could do better with my eyes closed.Staff were friendly but all over the place, no one was assigned to a particular table and in the 1.5 hours we were there we had 4 different servers.Friends that I were with have been going there for years and said that was the last time. It seems as if it has gone down hill as fast as an Olympic skier!!Not recommended – don’t waste your hard earned cash!
