As a lover of the Hip Group restaurants, I was very excited to see one open in Waihi. They are well known for their fantastic service, and deliciously simple meals. So four of us went along on a Sunday for brunch with high hopes. The menu and fit out is similar to the Auckland restaurants, paired back and elegant. The non-alcoholic drink options are lovely, and I really enjoyed my juice. The food options are good, but not quite great. The presentation was beautiful and while it was to a high standard there was nothing separating it from any other cafe. My eggs Benedict was tasty but served on an ordinary bread roll and light on the sauce. So, good, but for $18 I was expecting something slightly more elevated. The mushroom with lardons were great, and the fries that we ordered were delicious. But then the coffee that came was made to a very poor standard and there were inconsistencies around the table. We had an ice cream on the way out and were very disappointed by how tiny they were! Nothing like what we’ve had before and again, for $4.50 you don’t want to seem miserly. Even the one of us who had a double noted it was what she expected from a single. A query to the girl serving us was rudely ignored. So, we did enjoy the brunch, but small things really let the experience down.

Awesome place, awesome food at awesome prices. Crazy cool atmosphere and set-up. Has got so much better than it used to be years ago. Has some sweet beer and water taps on the wall which is really unique. Also heaps of drink choice, menu is classy and well thought out. Will definitely be coming here more often!

WOW!!! The make over this place has had is stunning. The food is absolutely amazing. I want to go there every day! Every dish I have had is packed with flavour and super fresh ingredients. Wonderful non-alcoholic drink options too. The lamb is my current favourite. Go there, you won’t regret it!

We ate at this restaurant today for lunch. Great service and very tasty food. A wonderful ice cream bar and playground for the children. Good parking. My only criticism was no highchair for the toddler I had with me.

The Waihi Beach Hotel had been recommended to us when friends heard we were going down for the weekend. My lady and I (plus the dog) were not disappointed. Great food and great service. But we should’nt have been surprised. Upon catching a glimpse of the ice creams it was obviously part of the Hip Group. For the food quality this is very reasonably priced food. If you are passing it is worth stopping just for the ice creams. Jackie and Scott (from the Hip Group) you really know how to create great restaurants! Just hope we will still have the tent up each summer at Christmas/New Years for the bands to play?

Outstanding service and fantastic meals. I have been for breakfast (potato hash with bacon and eggs and a baby gem salad) and lunch (fish and potato scallops) this week, and am really looking forward to dinner. Everyone in the group ordered something different and no one had a bad meal. Recommend you try the salted caramel hot chocolate – it was great and the presentation was awesome. By far the best place to eat at the beach.

The newly renovated Waihi Beach Hotel restaurant is well worth a visit. We had a wonderful meal there on 29 December 13. The staff were friendly, helpful and were able to explain dishes on the menu. The service was excellent and quality of food outstanding and fresh, well presented and fairly priced. Outside they have large deck and deli selling coffee and casual bites, play area for kids, bike stands and gardens in process of development. Great place to wander to meet friends and catch up while on holiday.
