we dined here way back in 2007 on the way to gisborne and it was one of the most pleasant experiences i’ve had. The food was beautifully presented and tasted superb. next time i come down from Auckland i will definitely come back and visit. Keep up the good work!!!
I have eaten at this restaurant many times over the years and have always enjoyed the food, service and warm atmosphere! I will and have always recommended this restaurant to anyone that asks for a good place to eat in Whakatane. Trust me, Try the Seafood Chowder!
The worst restaurant in Whakatane!!! Was served rotten Seafood – Had to pay full price for meal – restaurant took no responsibility – blamed packaged oysters from shop.!!!!!I have been to Babinka twice once last year for dinner and it was not very good the curry tasted like it had been in the pot all day and was a reheat, the chicken was dry and tasted like it had been heated many times. The desert sticky date pudding was served cold with a tiny bit of whipped cream, was very dry and was more like a dry rasin flavoured cake.Recently I returned to try the lunch menu and ordered the battered oysters I ate one and then cut into the others the smell was overwhelming all of them were off rotten green n yellow, it put others off at the table I felt so sick that I had already eaten one. I went to find the waitress who apologised and said I could order another meal the prawns, which I did it was better and not rotten. I had thought that my horrible experience would have been elieviated with a discount but no I was charged full price for the meals. I was told that they get the oysters in packets from somewhere else so it wasn’t their fault. I will not be going back here !!!
We had a lovely Thursday night dinner out for 3. The atmosphere was lovely and the waitress was very helpful. Meals were prompt and the meals were delicious.As I’m allergic to cheese, the waitress suggested an alternative to one component of the meal.This was the first time we had dined here since the restaurant moved to its new site and would definitely return again.
Ok im not sure what happened with the other reviews but we dined here and had a lovely waiter and as equaly lovely food. And must admit will go back again.
We had a terrible night here. We booked for dinner prior to the night in question. We booked a meal package. we were there for three hours and received only our main meal. Our children were served an hour before us so we had to try and keep them occupied for a ridiculous amount of time before we were served. No one even cleared our table, one of our kids ended up clearing there own table. No desert arrived at all and no one even came to tell us. We watched several smaller groups all come in be served their meals and leave before we even got anything. Finally I had had enough and decided to make a call and leave. We advised them we were not happy and that we expected an actual discount. All they offered was not being charged for most of the dessert, they didn’t even take off the whole price of the desert that we never received. I said we wouldn’t pay that much at which point they threatened to call the police. We asked to speak to the owner, he refused to come out. Totally gutless. Do not go here. I have spoken to other people who have had similar experiences. Do not go here even if it is the only place open. You will only be disappointed.
We booked at Babinka for our Mum’s 70th birthday on a Monday night for a reasonable sized group (3 tables) far enough ahead that they had time to be prepared. They had only one waitress on and the service was terrible. We waited hours for food, and no one cleared our tables, or took our desert order (part of our group package) – and when one of our group submitted our desert order (on account of waitress being to busy to even come over to our table) it took an hour before we realised it wasn’t even being prepared. When we tried to negotiate a better price considering we had sat there for almost 4 hours with terrible service and no desert – the manager wouldn’t front and they threatened to call the police if we didn’t pay full agreed price. Terrible service, terrible experience – will never go back.
