I have eaten at The Fig Cafe numerous times, both before & after their new chef started. I have to say this is my favourite cafe in Whakatane. The food is delicious, the girls are wonderful, and the price is great. The new look is just amazing & it gives the cafe a warm, relaxed feel. The owners have done an amazing job transforming the once average cafe into a fabulous eatery. Well done! I am a business owner in Whakatane & always feel proud taking my clients to such a great cafe. They too are always impressed. Highly recommended to all.
Went here for a meal with my boyfriend near the end of 2011, it was amazing! We happened to be eating on the first night they were serving dinners so we got a complimentary glass of champagne which was definitely a bonus! We ordered baked Camembert for our starter which was lovely and gooey and went really well with the ciabatta they provided, and we then ordered the kahawai risotto which was delicious and the stuffed chicken breast which was equally yummy! we finally rounded it up by sharing a chocolate pudding for dessert. The staff were friendly and willing to help, the food was amazing and came out very quickly and the bill wasn’t too expensive either! We’re going there tomorrow night for our valentines dinner and I am expecting great things :)I would definitely recommend the Fig to all my friends. They must have stepped up their game drastically from previous reviews as I don’t have any complaints about my experience
Well where do I start. It appears that the Fig Cafe has ironed out the previous problems experienced by other reviewers on this web site. We were greeted by a beaming smile from the waitress and seated away from a noisy group of Christmas revellers. Our food arrived promptly and was excellent. We had pork belly and stuffed chicken breast which were cooked beautifully. The flavour combinations were subtle and balanced and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The only drawback was the wine list. The shiraz I ordered was unavailable, in fact there was no shiraz available at all. The wine list needs attention but the merlot I had was fine. The staff were very attentive and were interested enough to enquire as to whether we were happy with our food.We would happily return to the Fig and hopefully they will have sorted the wine list by then.Highly recommended!
When we sat down as a table of 7 at The Fig, we were the only customers there. We ordered our meal, and a few more couples were seated. We waited over an hour for our food, and in the mean time, the other tables ordered, and were served their meals before our table?over an hour after ordering our meals came, the pork wasn’t cooked properly, and you cannot eat raw pork. The roast winter veges were luke warm. We told the waitress and she said we would not be charged.Overall, a disappointing experience, especially when you only go out for a meal once in awhile. Also very expensive for what you are getting
