The food here has always been fresh, exceptional and delicious. We eat here at least twice a month and find the prices are great for the portions received especially lunch. They have always been flexible to change dishes to our liking unlike other restaurants we have eaten at around the world. They allow you to order off the lunch menu at dinner time which is great if you want a smaller meal. The waiter staff have always been professional, efficient and give service with a smile. The time in which they take our order, and us receiving our food has always been good. If I had to nick pick I would give advice to make improvements to the decor and ambience including the music. Previously this restaurant was The Wharf Shed due to its location and nautical theme decor. This unfortunately hasn’t changed so you don’t feel like the food goes with the overall dinning experience. This place has the potential to be a trendy, hot spot to eat and meet with friends if improvements were made in this direction. Go to Matou and have the dumplings, yum!
Absolutely fabulous meal at Matou and the service was excellent – helpful, courteous and friendly.A friend and I stopped by just wanting a takeaway meal. We were invited to sit down at a table while ordering, were given a bottle of refreshing cold water and glasses while we pored over the menu and offered tea while we waited for it to be cooked. Vegetarian options were not a problem and, in fact, I could design my own dish. Both meals were of generous size and exceedingly tasty. We both felt our meals were easily the best Chinese meals we’ve ever had in NZ.The restaurant has a great outlook and another time we will definitely dine in to take advantage of that and to try more of the menu.
