About
The wine lounge is the Tasting Lounge for the Meniscus Vineyard that overlooks the township of Akaroa. The Meniscus collection begins in 2009 with wines that reflect those of the Alsace region of France but with a distinctive Akaroan flavour due to the unique soil of the ancient crater rim and climate of the Bank's Peninsula. Riesling, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris are available. Vintages from 2009 to 2014 are available for tasting. The 2012 Bourioud Pinot is a rose' style suitable for all occasions. The Bouriaud Pinot is named after Elie Bouriaud who was one of the first French settlers who arrived in July 1840 as his father was a wine grower in Rochforte, France. The 2013 Riesling has a delightful taste and is likely to become a wine connoisseur's collector item. The vineyard is managed by Renan Cataliotti. Renan has studied in France completing his viticulture and oenologie studies in 2006 and then worked in several different vineyards in France including the Cave cooperative of Saint Christol, the Domaine Sigalou and Aumerade. On touring the world he visited New Zealand, discovered Akaroa and fell in love with not only Akaroa but also his now wife Joey whose family are long time residents of Akaroa.
