Had a nice brunch on Mothers Day. Service good and great coffee. Food is rather small, not a lot on the plate for the price of some items. Went back today and the brunch was not worth eating. Poached eggs totally under cooked not a patch on the previous week, not value for money.

This cafe has a wonderful calming ambiance, I love popping in for a coffee every time I’m down in Christchurch. Plus it’s so handy to the airport if you have a few minutes to spare. I have had a few brunches here in my time, and they have a range of gluten free options to match. My favourite has to be their potato fritters with bacon (minus the relish for gf) followed closely by the patè with poached pear served with gf toast. Plus they also have a range of gluten free slices which is always good to see – I personally like the cherry ripe for something a little bit different but also the ginger crunch is another hit! The coffee is pretty consistent, and their chai lattes are amazing! Though they usually serve their lattes in a large cup so I tend to ask for it in a smaller cup. mindthecrumbs.com

Utterly disappointing. Two out of the four meals we found small stones in the spinach while chewing down with our teeth, we told the totally unhelpful waitress who did nothing about the situation.I say to the owners get rid of your waitresses and get staff who give a dam, plus the swag curtains over the roof are dirty and need replacing, the floor needs a good mop as well, who knows what the kitchen is like?

Went on a Monday. Cappuccino was the hottest I’ve ever had – still had a burnt tongue 2 days later. More barista training was clearly needed as this was very long way off being enjoyable.I could smell the the terakihi fish before it was placed in front of me – certainly not the smell of fresh fish. Both the texture and taste were of pre-frozen fish. Couldn’t eat the meal.Very strange, as apparently this place is good on a Saturday.

I have eaten here before and had a pleasurable experience but based on today’s lunch lowpoint, I won’t be back in a hurry. The Bouillabaisse style seafood stew sounded promising for a cold winter’s day. I was wrong. At nearly $20, I got a very small bowl of soup that would have been miserly even for the $12 they charged for the soup of the day.It had two mussels in the shell (possibly fresh), two shrimps (tasted frozen), some chopped up mussel and some tiny rings of calamari still stuck together also betraying their frozen origin. The liquid tasted like canned tomato soup (if it wasn’t from a can, the chef had gone to some lengths to replicate the canned variety complete with suspect super soft tiny diced carrots) and they threw some spaghetti in to bulk it up. No actual fish and no actual fish taste. I’ve eaten better at student flats. My husband’s crumbed fish was tasteless but the fries were ok altho they were soggy after a few minutes. Nice setting, good service – Very ordinary food.

It feels a bit odd to trot through a dress shop to get there but this place makes up for it. Greeted by a lovely waiter on arrival, swift, friendly and efficient service throughout. The food was good (pate was excellent), everything was beautifully presented and well seasoned. What a gem!
