Went here for breakfast today, wasn’t overly impressed. Hot chocolate was not nice at all, service was very blah, poached eggs were hard boiled which is always a disappointment, and the metal chairs were cold. Thought it was a bit weird that a cafe only has one option of sweetener for hot drinks and that option is coffee crystals, but portion sizes are great, definitely good value for money

I sat in here on my own for breakfast. A busy small place. The staff obviously knew the locals and were chatting away which was nice to watch. The coffee was delicious and I could not fault. I got the mushrooms which were creamy and spicy a flavour combination I haven’t had before but it worked and it was good.

The coffee is pretty good. The food cabinet is a bit limited; some salads, slices and a muffin. You should avoid having your muffin heated – this actually means microwaved to the point of disintegration. Oh, and ‘buttered’ translates as lathered in ‘catering spread.’ Once you transverse the hipster language barrier I suppose that things would get much easier? I find it hard to get very excited about salad as a stand-alone but confess to eating a good portion of some else’s at our table. The consensus was positive on the slices – too rich for me thou’. A great place to people watch.

I really love the vibe of Beat Street and that they are accredited with Conscious Consumers. For lunch I had a vegetable frittata and vegan chocolate cake. Both were really nice and it was a very affordable lunch at only $13. I was lucky enough to get a very large piece of cake as it was the last piece. With a large number of vegan items in the cabinet it was easy to choose things I knew would be dairy free, which is often hard in terms of baking and sweet treats. I also enjoyed sitting in the covered outdoor area, as whilst we were sheltered from the wind we could still sit in the sun. girlinbetween.com

I had had grab one voucher for Beat Street and used it with my partner and his parents. I loved the apple salad and my chia latte was as good as any. The only disappointment for me was the caramel slice as the caramel hadn’t been cooked enough and tasted too much like condensed milk. The breakfast meals we bought, French toast and the big breakfast with egg, sausage, potato etc. Were good size portions and quite tasty. It was quite busy but our coffee was quite promptly delivered to our table. As someone else mentioned, the barista was probably the biggest asset to the staff. Others were helpful enough but not nearly so cheerful. I liked the quirky decor.

We have always loved going to Beat Street. It used to be our regular. We hadn’t been in a while and thought we would try it out. Let me tell you, it has gone SEVERELY downhill from what it used to be. The three of us stood at the counter for ages waiting for either of the two servers to stop ignoring us and actually serve us. We ordered two slices, two iced mochas and a cappuccino. They used to plate the slices with a side of yoghurt and bring it out to the table with cutlery but today the guy just dumped the slices into two bowls (bowls?!?) and gave them to us with no cutlery. Both slices were dry and disgusting! The brownie broke into crumbs and tasted like nothing but flour and cocoa and the lemon slice was rubbery and did not have hint of lemon to it. There was a long wait between each drink and after waiting a long time for the second iced mocha I decided to go in and check. I asked the guy at the counter if it was coming and he said he didn’t realise we had ordered more than one. This was ridiculous in itself as he had served us originally and had repeated the order back to us when he processed it. AND he had charged us for it! What kind of service is this?! I understand this place is under new ownership? I don’t think this new owner has ANY idea about hospitality. They have taken what used to be a great little cafe and ruined it. I will not be coming back and will be telling others to avoid.

Been here a few times and have always found it quite nice, seems to have backtracked though. Brought my parents here today for a coffee, service was friendly and lovely as per. Coffee was lukewarm, food was average. My dad ordered a bacon and egg pie, which he said would have been really lovely if it wasn’t almost stone cold. Decor seemed dirty, rather than kitsch and quirky. Probably won’t be back.
