Good coffees but the worst eggs benedict I have ever had. The hash browns appeared to be heated up from the previous day and tasted like cardboard and the hollandaise was some sort of packet sludge that I wouldn’t feed to my pigs. SO disappointing when previous brunches have been really good there

I see quite a reviews reflect my experience. I popped in to the cafe to buy a coffee and stood waited at the counter for about 5 minutes to be served. My little baby started crying and I was willing the person in the kitchen to take my order so I could take the little one outside but unfortunately I was ignored. He certainly saw me and I then sat down inside within eye shot to settle the little one hoping he would come and take my order when he had finished in the kitchen. In the end I gave up and left. The cafe looks lovely but the service is certainly lacking. There only appeared to be one person working the Saturday shift who was both cooking, manning the coffee machine and the till.

Went to this cafe for lunch today, and was the worst food , coffee and service I have come across in Christchurch.Firstly – we ordered a long black, and a glass of wine. The waitress came over with a tray with two coffees on and said- cappachino- I looked at her and said NO- I was a long black- she ignored me and said again cappachino- and started to put in front of me- I said again -NO I ordered a long black- she then says- and a cappachino- I said why would I order two coffees, she says – you ordered a cappachino- I said No I did not- she then sits my long black in front of me, and stalks off with an attitude like I was at fault. Then comes back with meals and goes – I have removed the cappachino you ordered from bill- WTF-!!! I did not order it lol ! I then see it being taken to someone else.My meal was very average- looked at my partners meal- he ordered open chicken fillet on foccacia- it was chopped in very small sqaures and covered in a weird coloured sauce. We eat out a couple of times a week at a range of places- and it was disgusting, he could not eat his- it was like rubber.I stuck the fork in a piece and it was tough as old boots. When I told the waitress she looked unimpressed- and I said he could not even eat that it is inedible and we will not be paying for a meal that we have not consumed. When we went up to pay- they acted like they were doing us a favour by not charging us for it- no apologies !I also had an entertainment voucher- which I should have been entitled to use for the meal and drinks we ordered and consumed- but was told no way- we have already let you off with one meal- oh my god !Never go to this B grade establishment !

Great value for money. Although we used a voucher deal the normal prices seemed reasonable especially the $45 meal deal. The service was quick and friendly and the portion sizes generous. I also liked the choice of two sauces ( in separate dishes)with our steaks as I couldn’t decided on just one.The crème brulee for dessert was to die for.Would definitely recommend and go back to try other menu options.Great as a casual or more upmarket place to dine

Fantastic meal. 4 of us went for brunch and were all VERY HAPPY with our meal as we have been previously. We had coffee 3 of us decaf at no extra charge. Also used our Entertainment Voucher with no problem. A table of 20 came in 30mins after us and they were all served together. Would highly recommend.

Worst cafe I’ve ever been to in Christchurch. Have eaten dessert here before – big mistake – bland, tasteless, fatty, yuk. Staff are mostly officious and not friendly, they charge extra for decaf, and they have a fairly obnoxious ‘Please read’ document at the counter stating what you can and can’t do with special offers. No ambience, supermarket music, generally tacky, awful cafe. Stood at counter waiting to order coffees for easily 5-10 minutes, two others waiting too, it went on so long we started talking about it as complete strangers, but all this time there were two staff members working behind the counter within 2m of us making drinks, and one in the kitchen in full view, but they completely ignored us!

Great place for a coffee. I like the seating, the light and sense of spaciousness at Cafe del mar. I’ve never eaten here (and by the reviewed comments probably won’t), but have used it many times to catch up with friends over coffee or wine. They consistently make good coffee and have some delicious wines in their selection.
