I bought a vegetarian burger and it was delicious though it didn’t look appetizing. It looked like a squashed burger made by the hands of stinginess with less of everything in between. The chips are nice but not the best. In fact I prefer to buy these chips in conjunct with the dominoes pizzas. I think that this is the best combination ever! I also give this place a low rating as I was not impressed seeing flies on the breadcrumbs.

I like to consider myself a chip connoisseur and these rated pretty highly with me. A scoop of chips for $2.70 was fairly priced and a generous scoop size. The chips were perfectly golden and crunchy on the outside and soft potatoey goodness on the inside. I will definitely be going back to Ilam Seafoods. girlinbetween.com

The best fish & chips place that I’ve been to so far, and of course friendly service! I’m impressed how them both stay crunchy and no weird fishy smell even when it turned cold, comparing to what I usually found when I had them from other takeaway places. Their squid & onion rings are so yummy as well, will definitely come back for them again when I’m craving for such fast food. Oh and please don’t mind my vege green dish in the photo, that’s just something extra I prepared to go with fast food 😛

Awesome place great fish and amazing chips! I loved going to the store as it is beautifully decorated and they sell raw fish which are at reasonable prices. 5 Stars

Overall a nice fish and chips place. We got perch and one and half scoops of chips for dinner when the stove was not working. The fish is crumped so very crunchy and also the fish is really fresh. The chip is a bit cold after we drove home but they are still crunchy and delicious. The owner and his wife are very friendly. I’ll definitely come back again when I want fish and chips!

About the best Fish and Chips in the northwest part of Christchurch. In saying that, the competition is often pretty terrible. But these guys would stand on their own merits anyway.Chips are usually pretty good – nice and thick, nice and crispy. Not shriveled up greaseworms like some other places. Selection of fish is good. Burgers are also good, and pretty tasty. If you can’t decide between fish and a burger, I suggest their fish burger, it’s a good compromise!

Over the years I have not had a dud feed of fish & chips from Ilam Seafoods. Their BBQ fish is great and the oil they use must be good quality as I don’t get heartburn and have to take an extra dose of losec. definitely worth a visit. I’m off there in 10 minutes to pick up a phone order so they better be good or I’ll be back !OK I’ve just finished my latest feed of fish & chips. BBQ fish in lemon/pepper very good, Battered fish not so good , well the cod was a good size and well cooked but the batter was far too thick & doughy, chips nice and crisp. I’ll have to wait a few hours for the heartburn test.
