Always have had good service here and delicious food. Personal faves are the scones, muffins and the creamy mushrooms with a side of bacon. Love that they help feed Chch’s homeless too
My favourite breakfast place in Christchurch. I’ve been coming here for years, pre and post earthquake, and have never ever had a bad experience. 10/10 from service to food to coffee
I started with the iced chocolate, I thought it could’ve done with more ice cream but other than that it had a great chocolate flavour. I had the French Toast with the best banana and nice bacon. The service was nice and friendly.Update Jan2017I’ve been for a couple more visits and the food has been wonderful both times. I added bacon to the steak sandwich and I think they should make it a permanent addition ☺Update Jul2017Beautiful pork belly dish with carrots and beetroot. From the specials board.
UTRV is one of my favourite cafes in Christchurch. The breakfasts are some of the best I’ve come across anywhere.Seating can be a bit tight inside so be warned that if you are planning to go there for lunch, you may want to book in advance and even then, you may get a table that has very little room for you and whoever else you may be dining with. Fortunately, on a good day there is big bench seating outside and there is actually a second part to the cafe, which I believe they open for groups and when it gets busy.Having been a Wellington raised coffee snob for many years (living and working near Cafe L’affare, Mojo and Havana Coffee works) one of the first things to impress me about UTRV is the coffee, which always left me slightly happy and more awake. The breakfasts have always appeared to have been well thought out with generous portions and healthy looking bacon, hash etc. Not the limp results of a hotel buffet that you might see in some places.Staff have always been incredibly friendly and polite as well.If the seating indoors were better, this place would be high on my list. It’s also a shame that it’s not closer to town where I work, but the fact that it’s in the suburbs can be a good thing as well.
Last weekend we visited to this place for breakfast it was very busy but manage to find a table without the booking. The food was good and the scrambled egg was good so far the best scrambled egg I have had in nz. It took long but was worth a wait. Only thing tht was not good was the toast it were to hard n crispy n the coffe was also not so good. But worth going atleast once if you are a foddie.
After being away for over a year, great to be back. Popped in on the weekend and it was great as usual. Eggs benedict were good, coffee was nice too if a bit cold. Great solid place to have a brunch.
