We visited this Pub on a Thursday evening. It was busy and typically a bit noisy, which was fine. We both selected the Seafood Chowder. I’ve been a fan of Seafood Chowder for many years and have had some very good ones, especially in Tasmania. This one blew me away! Big fat juicy Mussels and Scallops and lots of prawns and bits of fish. The general recipe also had Potato and Parsnips and Carrots as well as Celery and stock. I asked the chef and she said it’s a recipe she had handed down and developed. Well done chef Simone!
The pub had just 2 or 3 people in it at lunch time which was a bit surprising as all the other restaurants were closed. It should have been a warning though. I had a meat pie and a beer here and felt quite sick afterwards.I drove to Christchurch after lunch and thought that it was the bumps in the road that made me feel sick but when I began burping up the taste of meat pie and experiencing waves of nausea I realised it was the food from the pub.It quite spoilt my day and put me off anything to do with Irish pubs again. My wife had to go to bed in the afternoon because she felt so sick. What really upset me was the reconstituted mashed potatoes which was more like the filler you use for cracks in walls. The gravy was a strange dark brown gloop poured on top of the mash. All in all – an interesting but unpleasant experience.
