We went for the 12 course degustation dinner and were blown away by the fantastic service, open view of the kitchen and of course the delicious food!
Came for a 5 course degustation with 3 others. The decor is pleasant, very clean and tidy. The courses were well spaced out and each had its own delightful textures and tastes. Was very impressed with the staff who delivered each course with a little theatre, the knowledge that they had and memory for each ingredient astounded me. In fact 5 courses ended up being a few more as they don’t count the initial snacks, palate cleanser, cheese board and petite fours. I most liked the paua ravioli. Blind tasting is quite a lot of fun and did not dissapoint. One of our party had food intolerances which were catered for splendidly and didn’t cause any concern. Many thanks for a great experience.
We went here as a family for the six course degustation and were totally blown away. It thoroughly deserves the restaurant of the year award it received in 2015. In our view the atmosphere, food, service and general ambience totally surpassed anything we had been to in Auckland recently. Clever, innovative and above all, delectable food, served a refreshing way. The service was no fuss but attentive. We particularly enjoyed the little Ecuadorian cheese breads, the crayfish, the white chocolate ice cream and the pigeon (who would have thought).Would definitely recommend this as a place to go for a special night.
We went in for the 5 course degustation lunch and found it totally amazing. We were very well looked after and the food was impressive- light, well paced and portioned, balanced and well thought of! Would certainly return!
We (a group of 4) had the 5 course degustation menu. The first thing we noticed was the outstanding service, a professional and knowledgable but personable young man who made us feel very relaxed and at home. We were advised on what wines to have with each course and they were spot on perfect accompaniments. The food was absolutely phenomenal. None of us had ever experienced anything quite like it! The meals were fresh and simple to look at but you could taste every single ingredient on the plate and you could tell how fresh they were. We also appreciated the stories of the chefs in their chef whites biking around Lyttleton foraging for the condiments and flowers on our plates. This was worth every cent and was a night that i will be talking about for a long time!
Having recently come runner-up in the latest cuisine’s good food guide 2014, I decided to give this place a try to see what makes them special and to win an awardRoots offer a blind degustation menu of either 5 or 8 courses, where you never know what you are going to get.We opted for a five course degustation. Serving size portions were perfect. I did not feel overwhelming full nor hungry after our set courses. Please check out my website for an indepth review of what we ate. misopeckish.com
What a gem!!!We chose the 5 course degustation menu with wine matching. The food was innovative and beautifully executed by chef Giulio. The food was more or less modern Kiwi with a strong emphasis on local producers and with just a touch of Giulio’s South American roots. The wine matching by front of house hostess Christy was superb. From the sublime matching of a Daniel Le Brun bubbly with Pan de Yuca (which was reminiscent of French Gougères) to the somewhat quirky match of North Canterbury Merino lamb with a Chilean Carmenere, the wine/food matching was note perfect.A memorable evening – well worth the trip through the tunnel.
