Been here twice now for yum cha. It is cheap and cheerful if you are needing an Asian food fix. Some plates are better than others though in the end not sure much of it is made in house. For a cheap meal without frills I would recommend it.

Good fast service but the food was pretty bad. The squid entree was so overcooked it took a lot of chewing to get it down. The sweet & sour chicken left a lot to be desired – it tasted awful. The only part of the meal that was average & that we were kind of happy to eat was the lamb & coriander.

When I arrived I was still waiting for a while for my friend who was joining me, so was hoping someone might come over and tend to me in the mean time, but no, I had to flag someone down – eventually – and then I ordered a sauvignon blanc. My friend arrived as did my wine, and I thought it looked off, and as I tried it realised it was a Chardonnay. I said to the waitress that I’d ordered the sav and this was a Chardonnay when she came over and she looked at me like, ‘what do you want me to do about it?’ So I actually had to tell her to take it back and swap it. Not a good start. We ordered a starter and our mains, took a long time to receive the entree, then they bought us a wrong dish and just hung around our table not knowing where it went. My main was actually pretty good, which was the pork belly stir fry, I’d recommend it. My friend ordered the beef and cashew nuts and said that was lovely and tender. When we went up to pay, we wanted to split the bill and this seemed like the biggest issue in the entire universe. We were blatantly talked about in front of us in their language, and in what looked a quite aggressive manner. All in all, the food was pretty nice, definitely recommend for a takeaway, but be prepared if you are dining in.

We tried this place because we had a voucher from the entertainment book. All I can say was this place is fantastic. The waiter was so helpful, he asked us if we had any questions about the dishes etc and explained everything perfectly. The food was amazing!!! My partner ordered the honey pork and said it was his favorite one so far (he gets it every time we have Chinese). We had the best Chinese we have had in a long time and even returned the next night to take my parents out for dinner. Once again, the staff were friendly and up for a laugh with us and we were not disappointed with any of the five dishes we chose (including the honey pork again). We have defiantly found our new Chinese local 🙂

We ate dinner here last friday and it was amazing!! I ordered the chicken noodles, my partner got the fried rice and prawns, and the kids shared a plate of sweet and sour chicken. Everything was amazing and huge servings. We came home and ate the left overs the next day for lunch. It was a great meal at a great value!

5 Star! 5 star! 5 Star! What more can I say than 5 Stars! What are all these mad bads posting about sharks fin soup for? What’s the difference between eating a sharks fin or a cow’s hind leg? Anyways back to the point. Service was magnificent. Better than most Chinese restaurants in the Christchurch area. The food was so appetizing and appealing to the eye 5 stars. For the price I paid for my meals I felt bad as I personally felt that I was undercutting them because it was 5 stars. Will be back soon and many more times to try the whole menu. All in all: 5 Stars.

I’ve dined at the Red Bowl a few times and it can be a bit hit and miss, fortunately most of the occasions I’ve ventured over there it’s been okay. The Red Bowl is a pretty big place and in the evening it can be incredibly busy so booking is probably a good idea. The setting is fairly cliche for a Chinese Restaurant, the usual lazy susans, chinese lamps, etc. Staff are usually pretty attentive but there are generally some hiccups that you get from time to time, such as:* Meals/Entrees arriving in an illogical way i.e. rice for meal arriving before entrees, or having one person receive their main while the other waits a ridiculous amount of time* We’ve had an item forgotten and have seen this happen with others as well* Very little time before meals, sometimes meals arriving while you’re still eating entreesWhile those are some of the downsides we’ve experienced, the food for the most part has been fantastic. The garlic beans are great and the rest of the fare pretty good, at least the times that I have been there.Recommended, but best book in advance and go there while they are busy.
