Went for lunch and also dinner. Lunch menu is quite the deal offering many Katsu (fried) style meals from 10dollars. Dinner menu much more extensive with sushi, sashimi, and set menus. This place uses quality sake (cooking rice wine) and its evident in many of their savoury dishes. For balance of flavours and cost this is the best Japanese restaurant I’ve been to in Christchurch.

First time at Tomi for a birthday tonight. I had a chance to checkout the menu before hand and had a couple of things picked out. I was in a group of 6 and we all had an extremely enjoyable time. My food was excellent and the staff are both attentive and patient. I will definitely be back.

I love the decoration of the restaurant but not the food. Guess they spent all the money on the deco thus are too poor to hire some good chefs or to get a better supplier. It looks quite Japanese, the chefs, the deco, the menu, but the food is really disappointing. Apart from the sushi, nothing is acceptable.Had a family lunch there recently again. I have to say it was a much better experience. The deep fried chicken tastes fresh and juicy, way better than the dried-out deep fried pork schnitzel I had the first time. The teriyaki chicken lunch box is really good. The takoyaki is still ordinary and so are the other stuff we ordered this time.

Went for lunch recently with a friend and he ordered Salmon Shashimi while I had the Terriyaki Chicken on rice. Both dishes were good but nothing outstanding. Great place to go for a quick lunch. Menu appears to be very heavy on meats rather than sea food.. sorry I love fish:)Clean and tidy and service was good

Had a very good night here a while ago- my friend and I just walked in and they seated us even though they were packed. We ended up on the stools looking over the kitchen, which turned out to be really fun! We got to watch the chefs work (there is a section of the kitchen outback that we couldn’t see). There was quite a long wait- like I said the restaurant was packed, and when we finally did get food I was served about 10 minutes before my friend – so I shared with her because I’m a good person (I wish I hadn’t because it was so yummy). All of our dishes were wonderful and the staff were really nice. I will definitely be going back

We went to Tomi Restaurant last night, a group of 8 including 5 Thai visitors. Had a thoroughly enjoyable meal ,food was great, the staff were extremely helpful and we really could not fault it. The cost including corkage worked out at about $35.00 per head, however, only two people had deserts. Still thought it was a reasonably priced dinner for quality food. Many thanks to the staff. The only problem we did have was when the heating suddenly dipped down at about 9.15pm, had to ask them to turn it up again, which they did. Perhaps it was on a timer, and it definitely was a cold and very wet night.

Went for lunch. The lunch menu is is on a double sided laminated sheet and has a lot of photos of the food which would be helpful for people new to Japanese food. The two obento choices looked good. I had the deep fried prawn salad which came with rice and miso soup. It was reasonably priced and made a pleasant light lunch. The service was fairly good but the entree order arrived after the mains.
