Decided on a spur of the moment decision to have a meal out and chose the Brick Works as I had heard that it had recently changed owners. We were greeted with a smile and when we mentioned that we did not have a booking, this was not an issue and proceeded to show us to a table. As soon as we were seated, a waitress came over to our table with menus and the specials list. She informed us that this was her first day and only 1hr into her shift. She was very pleasant, helpful and friendly and had taken the time to become familiar with the special list without the aid of a notebook.Ordered drinks which came out promptly.Myself and Plus One, decided to make the most of the special. 200g Steak, with salad and fries and a red wine jus. Our Mains came out in an acceptable time frame and was delicious. Our food was piping hot, steak cooked to perfection. Mine, Medium Rare, while Plus One opted for a Medium. He is pretty fussy when it comes to the cooking of his steak, but was impressed that it was spot on. Clean plates all round.A lovely evening and a very enjoyable mid week meal. Atmosphere was great with the staff helping entertain the younger diners with colouring books and pencils. All staff were friendly and polite. One thing that they perhaps should consider is the allowing of dogs in their outdoor area. Given that it was a cooler night, no one was dining outside, however, should diners wished too, it would have been difficult with two dogs running around the outdoor area. This area is lovely but off putting with large dogs, one of which looked a little mistrusting of strangers, running freely around the tables. We will definitely be back to try the Goat Curry next !

My wife and I went there for dinner as we had an entertainment book voucher. Would of happily paid full price. We shared bread which was good. I had one of the best steaks I have ever had. She had falafel and said is was yummy. Both had the same desert which was also great. Will be going back definitely.

We came here for dinner and were really impressed with the meals. The waiting staff were friendly and efficient, we ordered an entree which arrived to our table shortly after. For our mains we had beef and lamb- both were cooked to perfection and the presentation was superb. The prices were great for the size of the meals. We managed to find room for dessert (lemon meringue pie) which again was delicious. Definitely will be coming back.

Had a meal at the Brickworks last night Friday 10th January 2014. There were 6 of us, and ordered a variety of meals including pork-belly. steak, pasta, and chicken breast. All of us were impressed with the meals. The wait staff were very attentive and polite. We would go there again.

Went there last night excited and ready for some great food. After ordering twice cooked pork belly and Marsala duck, our order was at our table within 10 minutes! Both meals looked unfresh and when tasted, lacked flavour. My duck was warm and not hot. We called the waitress over and asked if the food had been reheated in the microwave. We were assured it had not. After discussing with the manager he told us the portions were previously cooked, then heated up when ordered. Yuck! We would be prepared to wait for freshly cooked food.We sent both meals back and ordered the burgers. When asked how we wanted them cooked, we said ‘medium’. 20 minutes later they came out. The bun was toasted in the middle but appeared doughy on the outside, with the bun showing lumps of flour on top. Both meat portions were rare and my wife’s was so chewy with Grissel she could not eat it. The chips were also fatty.I ate my meat but left most of the bun. We complained to management again who apologised and said they could send us vouchers. No way. We were then offered a jar of sweets. How embarrassing. While we had no issue with the wait staff, the food was a total disappointment and fell far short of expectations. Guests don’t mind waiting for freshly cooked food guys. We will never visit this establishment again.

Pleasant environment being typical suburban bar/restaurant. Arrived for dinner for two (had booked) and were seated promptly. No delay in taking orders and received entrées in timely fashion. Seafood chowder one of the best I’ve had while my wife’s scallops were appreciated also. The lamb main was generous and very well cooked and presented. The chicken breast was similarly of a hearty portion and greatly enjoyed. Overall an excellent meal and would recommend to all. Only issue was we ordered a small seafood chowder but at bill paying time we were charged for a large (which in hindsight we had received) however there was no argument and they were happy for us to pay for a small.

My friend and I visited the Brick Works today for midday lunch. I must confess that I am an ex-publican and spend every Thursday ( our ‘Bucket Day ‘ ) visiting a different establishment weekly. We arrived early, eleven thirty’ish and was shown to our seat by an extremely pleasant and friendly lady. My friend walks with the aid of two sticks and she provided suitable seating for him. The hospitality industry today is lacking people with true hospitality. The atmosphere, the meal and the service was excellent. In fact, we rated it as the best establishment we have visited in Canterbury. Upon leaving I asked the waitresses name. It came as no surprise to find she was in fact the owner. Well done Stephanie, you have a top restaurant. Regards
