Must have caught them on an off day today, admittedly it was Mothers Day but it didn’t seem that busy when we walked in at 1pm. An hour after we ordered we quizzed our waitress on our food. When she returned from the kitchen she admitted to an error with our order, apologized and said our food would be 5 minutes. When the food came the second plate to the table was wrong and by the time all the correct food got to the table 10 minutes had gone by since the first plate had arrived. A few minutes in I noticed a rather large moth floundering in my salad. I motioned the manager (I think), who took an odd position to the situation in my opinion. Eventually the plate was cleared away and I waited while everyone else ate. After, 3 of us had desert which was quite good. Everyone else was happy with there main but we all agreed the time lapse between ordering and eating and the attitude of the manager when dealing with the bug scenario would probably deter us from returning.

My partner and I took my family here for dinner. The service was amazing and very efficient, and the food was more than great! We all agreed that we haven’t had food that good in a long time :)The whole environment was very pleasant and we’ll definitely be visiting again soon.

I think it was 8:40pm last Saturday night when my elderly mother & I got to Rocksalt. I had been at the races and was quite tired. I actually didn’t think for a moment that the restaurant would let us in however, they welcomed us eagerly. From our welcome to our departure at 9:45pm Rocksalt was brilliant. The service was superb (both attending to our water, wine and food AND making sure we were comfortably warm) the food absolutely divine – fresh, flavoursome & filling. We never felt rushed despite being the last diners. Thank you Rocksalt, a lovely way to finish a great day.

A midweek dinner organised by my wife and what a lovely surprise. A nice relaxed atmosphere with good background music so off to a great start. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive, they seemed to appear just when you needed them. The food and wine were excellent, a very pleasant evening I would highly recommend.

Food was very good, staff exceptionally helpful. Although staff arranged Gluten free options, more would be great.Good wine selection. Acoustics just fine – even with the large group. Would definately go back again!HKPW

It’s not easy to find a decent place to eat on a Sunday night which is also a public holiday when half of the city is closed due to earthquake damage. We had been to the restaurant that used to sit where Rocksalt now sits many times and had heard it had changed hands. We thought we’d give it a go when we heard it was open. When we walked in it had an obvious casual vibe, good for after work drinks, pizza with friends or lunch/dinner. The restaurant opened only two weeks before the February quake and is obviously still in the early days.First up, the service was outstanding. Very attentive waiting staff who had a good knowledge of the menu and were able to provide comprehensive insight into each meal for one of our party who had dietary requirements (gluten free). Once we’d ordered, our drinks were delivered promptly soon followed by our meals. The meals were outstanding. So full of flavour. I ordered the roast chicken which came with potatoes, bacon, peas and beans. A really good combination. Other members in our party ordered beer battered fish and chips (which received rave reviews), the pan fried market fish and the steak sandwich. We also ordered a side of roast veges. I can’t emphasise enough how perfectly cooked the food was. There were no complaints from the 4 of us. We decided not to stay for dessert (although the menu looked delicious – apple crumble, baileys cheesecake, plum pudding, and banoffee pie). The meals were not expensive, beautifully presented and the staff were great – attended to our every need without being too intrusive. The only downer was the bad acoustics in the restaurant which meant the room was quite noisy however there was a sign apologising for this and saying this was in the process of being fixed.5 star – give it a try! Just down the road from St Andrews College, nice little local eatery
