Extremely overpriced.. Food was bland and small portions and presentation wasn’t very good. To be honest it looked like hospital food.. The noodle dish with Asian ingredients had no ginger (which was listed in menu) or anything. It was extremely bland and oily. Last time I got similar takeaway food it wasn’t good but was still better than that..Harsh but true- something needs to happen about the standard of food in restaurants in chch
Have had many meals here in the past and the service, food and beer has been very good indeed. Last time with a group of friends that all changed for the worst. The leffe beer was outstanding as per normal, but now after a price rise its $9.50 for 250mls of tap beer.Pasta mains are very small indeed and the salads are only just passable. The fries were substandard, limp instead of crispy. In fact my local fish and chip shop has better fries. I reckon the oil was not hot enough. So much for Belgian fries/frites !!! As for the service,it was just not there. The young manager looked hungover and he was near asleep with his head in hands, sitting at the end of the bar. Not heading back any time soon.
We booked in for their degustation and while I enjoyed the meal I was surprised there was no sign of any mussels. We started with the black pepper hot smoked salmon salad with green beans, rocket, witlof, and a maple and horseradish dressing. Nice. Next was five spice pork belly. Then aged char-grilled ribeye. Not so impressed with quality of meat. And lastly baked apple tart with rum and raisin ice cream anglais. I’m not a fan of r&r ice cream and wished I’d asked to have plain old vanilla. All the meals were matched with a wine or a beer. We picked one of each time and my friend the non-driver had a good amount to drink.
Except for the fries and beer, the experience was just average. The mussels pot serving was a good size but the broth just lacked flavour and the mains lacked seasoning. I couldn’t find anything that justifies their slightly over-priced menu. Will i come back – just for the beer and nothing else 🙁
Friendly staff and good service. The broth for the 1kg mussels lacked flavour (blue cheese should have a kick!) and was just salty. The size was good. Fries were delicious and just how I liked them. Vegetarian pancake was good but the baked mussels was stingy on cheese
Ive always like this place, venues not as cool as down by the river but they have done a great job capturing the atmosphere here. Great fries 🙂 , have not tried the full menu which looks a little on the high side, but loved the snack ribs. Great beer too.
Think my $20 cocktail was actually a mocktail. Minimal alcohol seemed to be involved. Vegetable croquettes were not very exciting. However, the service was excellent and fast.
