I have been itching to try this Sichuan restaurant since there’s a huge shortage of it in Christchurch! Having lived in Melbourne 7 years we have some pretty strong cravings as their Sichuan eateries are top notch. They got bonus points for being highly responsive to online booking, though lost that point as the table wasn’t ready when we arrived. We took our parents there and they aren’t huge fans of Sichuan but they do like Chinese food as they are from hk. We ordered 7 dishes and were very surprised on how small they were. I guess they seemed like an authentic Chinese restaurant and usually that portion is more likeable to a tapas bar in a fancy setting. We did enjoy the meal but lost points on over watering their white rice (borderline sloppy) and bringing out a non-chilli noodle dish ordered especially for our 3 year old and was told by the waitress to confirm it’s not spicy but for the dish to be scattered with chilli flakes. The waitress (I would imagine she’s the co owner) explained that the chicken is premarinaded in chilli sauce and I wondered if she would charge for another one made without the chilli. She did the right thing and didn’t charge for the second one but whoever did the stir fry put way too much oil in it. Anyway. We’re generally not that hard to please I think when it comes service but we didn’t feel wowed by it so I’m unsure if I will come back to try it again. I did appreciate their efforts to turn things around we’ll probably give them another go for lunch again as their portion may be more relevant for that.
