Our go to choice for fish and chips and have been a regular customer for nearly 15years, despite having lived in and out of the immediate area.Nothing has really changed in all that time, the owners, the shop fittings, the customers. It’s all familiar and consistently good fish and chips. They always offer a wide selection of fish that can be ordered battered or crumbed, a selection of different flavoured salts to choose from (Chicken salt is our usual choice), and the chips are a mix of straight and crinkle cut (always crunchy) making it standout from the other fish and chip shops.Every now and then we try other fish and chip shops closer to where we live but we always go back to our familiar favourite.Definitely worth a try if you are in the Church Corner area.
Truly a fine establishment for all your fried takeaway needs. The tantalising menu includes a plethora of favourites, from jam donuts to deep fried mars bars. However, the pièce de résistance is undoubtedly the classic, fish ‘n chips. The timeless duo further complimented by an array of flavoured salts on offer. If in search of a quick, yet still scrumptious, dinner solution, you couldn’t possibly go wrong with a couple scoops from Fresco’s.
The best fish and chips I’ve ever had IN MY LIFE!Especially the fish, it’s crunchy on the outside, tender and juicy in the inside. The chips are great with the ‘chicken salt’.Cheap and super yummy! Love it! Have to eat it at least once a week!
Generous portions and delicious crumbed hoki! The Kumara chips were pretty decent, albeit not the best I’ve had in NZ, but still decent. It was really value for money and I wouldn’t mind coming back for more seafood!
Been to Freshco about 15-20 times, always consistently good. best prices ive ever come across, best fish n chip shop by far. you will not regret going there at all!
In terms of fast foods, this place probably does one the best fish and chips I’ve come across in Christchurch. The chips are done really nicely – crispy, hot and chunky (unlike those from many other f&c shops I’ve visited). I’ve tried there normal, chicken salt, garlic salt, and lemon pepper flavours and would recommend to definitely try them all (except regular salt as its a bit boring). The fish they do is really fresh and well fried (not surprising as they are also a fishery where you can purchase fresh fish). And their chocolate explosion donuts are pretty amazing too.
Decent fish and chips are almost impossible to find according to this reviewer. They seem so appealing from a distance, but are almost always truly bad. In fact, bad is average for fish and chips. Thanks for Fresco for upping the ante just a little. This very popular purveyor delivers with pleasing, lightly battered fish and more or less crispy Mr Chips chips rather than the typically inedible soggy things found elsewhere. Unfortunately they still sell shark under their various pseudonyms such as lemonfish. This is a cheap but worst choice species according to the Best Fish Guide. Overall not nearly as good as home-made, but convenient and better than most. They also sell fresh-ish whole fish.
