Faaosofia Island Style Cuisine. This is in the run down block of shops on the cnr. of Bickerton St and Wainoni Rd. I went with their $10 BBQ special (it’s only available Friday and Saturday) – potato salad, 4 sausages, three chicken drums , one lamb chop with chop suey all served from a warmer. Lordy, SOOOOO much food! This was one generous feed! The potato salad was excellent – big chunks served lightly dressed. Island style chop suey with the glass noodles is not my favourite, I guess it complemented the rest of the meal though. All three meats were tender and moist with a deep smoky BBQ taste. The chop in particular was a thing of joy! This is super fatty – comfort food. If you’re interested in Island cuisine (the last gastro frontier?) this is an excellent starting point. You’d struggle to match it for value, it was more than enough for two people. They also have dishes of chop suey, curry, chow mein, surimi, pumpkin with lamb or mussels in coconut cream. They put out about 2 to 3 of these dishes each day. So one day it might be chop suey and curry and the next day maybe chop suey and chow mein. These meals go on plates of either $5, $7 (2 choices) or $10 (3 choices) – or if you want a whole pot which would be $30! They also have lamb flaps $4, lamb shanks $3, chicken thighs $3, taro $3 each, lamb buns steamed ($2) fried ($2.50) each. I’ll be back to investigate this side of the menu, for sure.
