Clean, pleasant, with an appetising selection of counter food. Apparently there is a menu, but I didn’t see it. Automatic door and ramp make wheelchair access easy, though the tables inside are the kind with pedestal legs that make getting comfortably close to the table in a wheelchair difficult–weather permitting, next time I’d eat outside at one of the more traditional tables there. The outside space has water features and various other garden objects on display. Coffee was coffee (what can I say, we’re not connoisseurs). Would happily return.

Went in for a coffee – person taking orders did not hear or remember my friends request for soy milk. Massive (and really unnecessary) argument with the owner ensued – my friend was happy to pay the extra 50c for soy that wasn’t charged, but he just couldn’t let go that a simple mistake was made. Such a horrible little man! Also the dog was wandering freely between the garden centre, Cafe AND THE KITCHEN!!!!! Wouldn’t go back there if you paid me.

Always heard good things about this little cafe.Service on the day was good although a lot of social chatter behind the counter whilst we were waiting to be served.Coffees were up to standard. No spillage.Wide selection of food and a menu (wasn’t aware of the menu until we had sat down)Ordered from the cabinet. I had a lasagne, which was heavy on the carrot – but still delicious. Good value for money. It would have been elevated to the next level if it came with a side salad. My friend had the stuff kumara which also was presented well and it came with a side salad. All in all enjoyable.Clean and tidy..Staff were friendly. All up $30 for two meals and three drinks.

I have been to Portstone many times over the last year for coffee and food from the cabinet, It has always been good, though the service is often slow when the owner makes the coffee.Last week I took 3 friends along and had to put up with an annoying tiny dog roaming freely around the cafe. This is unhygienic and dangerous, it didn’t bite anyone but growled at a small child right behind me and startled me.Add to this the one extremely rude server who brought out our coffee, minus the hot water for the two long blacks. When this was pointed out she snapped at us and said she only has two hands. Odd when the young lady behind her was delivering coffees with a tray (politely). The dog plus rude attitude equal the end of my visits there, I’d recommend a better cafe nearby but don’t know of any closer than the red verandah.

Went for lunch. The waitress, who I presume was the owner was rude, disrespectful and unaccommodating. It is the worst customer service I have experienced and left me feeling discriminated against as a patron dining alone. I had ordered lunch from a lovely service person, but after the rudeness of the owner, I asked for a refund and left without dining. This is the second time I have visited; the first time the dog (that roams free around the cafe) growled aggressively at my 2yr old, while we waited in the line.I had organised a coffee group to meet regularly there in the coming months, but will be taking our business elsewhere and recommend that the owner is considerate of others, in groups or alone in future and treat patrons with respect and courtesy.
