An unexpected experince. We stayed at the hotel of which this restaurant is a part. It looked okay, so we gave it a try. The experience was an unexpected surprise. Calling this a brasserie is perhaps selling it short as it was bordering on fine dining; linen table cloths, serviettes and all. Yes, the same menu is available in the rooms, but the dining experience was really good – a good range of local wines and a varied menu choices. The food was of a high standard with uniformly good flavours and presentation. If you are in Napier, you could do far worse.
We booked a table and when we got there it wasn’t reserved. We weren’t given a drinks menu. The waitress went away to get it and when she came back she asked us for our food order straight away. The food was not worth the price. My husbands fish dish was over cooked and the vegetables were tasteless. The waitress did not come back once we received our meals to check if things were ok or to refill our drinks. My husband had to go to the bar to get another wine. The oversight on their part was not acknowledged nor any apology given. A disappointing experience.
Dined here last evening, my scallops had to be smallest I have ever seen. the dish was good but scallops left much to be desired. Service was good however. My husband had venison salad which was more is a stir fry and didn’t taste like venison at all?
A very enjoyable evening. Lovely food, good service and reasonably priced for this type of dining.
