Have been to Scotia Bar twice, 1st on a snow day in June-July and the second in October.Given snow days are quiet it probably not the best day to review as there was decreased number of customers but the service and food was excellent then.Recently we went there after other plans fell through and they could find us a table and we had a great time. The food is very good, the service is very good. The price is reasonable when compared to similar style restaurants in the city.Worth going to assess for yourself.

Our family of 6 dined at Scotia early July and booked in for the early bird special. The restaurant is lovely with nice atmosphere. Our table was reserved on a raised part of the restaurant and the staff were more than happy to re seat us to the lower level for easier access for our gran. We ordered a round of drinks but had to ask for refills and eventually settled for water. Entree’s were average and mains a mix. The pork belly itself was nice but the dish as a whole wasn’t enjoyable. I had The gnocchi which i couldn’t eat and instead ate the vegetables for the table. There was no meal check nor any comment made when clearing the full plate away. The dishes were presented well and there has obviously been allot of effort put into the menu but unfortunately it just doesn’t shine through.

This is the second time we have had an Early Bird Special meal fairly recently at Scotia – can’t fault the service, atmosphere, staff etc but the food is decidedly average – I had the pork belly which was OK but the carrot salad was in a word – horrible – so much cinnamon in it and very soggy and unpleasant – the rosti’s were OK but obviously deep fried and could smell and taste the fat – the restaurant setting is lovely – the food just needs to match and up its standards.

We are regular diners at Scotia and we have never been disappointed. The food is great, the beer and wine list exceptional and the whisky selection absolutely mind boggling. The atmosphere is also great! We will definitely continue going there. It is one of our favourite restaurants in Dunedin.

I’ve only eaten at the Stuart Street premises once but was very impressed. The food was delicious and the staff were attentive and friendly throughout. I would give 5 stars if it weren’t for the fact that both my brother and myself couldn’t have the special because only one was left.

We ate here to celebrate our anniversary, despite booking ahead we were seated it the corner each facing seperate walls. Ideal for a lone diner or maybe a pot plant but completely inappropriate for us.The specials were never read to us, we were left wondering if there were any until we heard them read to the neighbouring table after we had ordered.I took a dare on the confit of hare and my partner played it safe with a aged beef fillet. Both were fairly terrible. The steak was overpowered with onions that he says are still burning throat. My hare was so dry I didn’t attempt to eat much of it. When volunteering my thoughts on the food ( we were never asked) I was told that hare is always dry and just because it is a confit does not mean it should have sauce or not be dry. No appologies, no offer to pass this onto the chef. Instead I was told that it just didn’t suit my palate. Bad setting, rude staff, terrible food.

Amazing setting, really love the place however food has been really bland the last two times we have eaten there. My meal was good however the other 3 people I ate with had pretty bland and average meals. My wife hardly touched hers.Maybe it was bad luck but we wont be going back in the near future, two strikes with average food and you wont get us back. Shame reallly.
