Best value lunch with friends we’ve had for months. We chose the set menu 3 course lunch for $29.50. Just what we felt like after wandering around the nearby magnificent Hastings markets . Each course was faultless. The Shrimp Cocktail entree took us back quite a few years when it was popular in the 60s! But the presentation was superb. The Pork Belly melted in the mouth. The best I have had. An individual pavlova completed a perfect lunch. The portion sizes were large enough for a 3 course meal. Any more and we would have been uncomfortable. The menu was neither extensive nor complicated. Well cooked food, beautifully presented. And great wine to compliment the meal.

Four of us for lunch. Spacious interior; nice sunny outdoor area. We sat inside.I went with the three course set menu $29.50. Three of us opted for that.We ordered wine. I had a Vidal Pinot Noir. Very smooth and enjoyable. $12 per glass.Starter: Garlic poached prawns with pineapple and corn salsa. I was unsure of this disha as I am not a fan of pineapple as a savoury. However, it was a pleasant dish and worked better than I expected but it was a little bland. The prawns weren’t that garlicky. A bit of salt helped. Nice fresh dish though.Main: Pork belly with sage crust, garlic and purple kumra with broccolini. The crust wasn’t as sagey as I expected but added a nice texture to the dish. The various sprinkles of additonal elements (such as the dried chiles) were random but worked well. The pork was tender but had a little too much fat on it, although, overall this was a very flavoursome dish.Desert: Pavlova. Light, fresh and sweet but not overly. A very good end to the meal.Staff were attentive. Our waitress was friendly and offered good advice.I thought the set menu was very good value for the amount and quality we received.

We had a great experience at Vidal. Arrived at a hot summer day for lunch. Greeted by the lovely waitress and were sitted straight away. We were blown away by the beautiful but simple deco of the restaurant. Took us right back in time.It took a while for our food to arrive, but we were all chatting away so didn’t really mind. It was worth the wait for the beautiful food. They all presented nicely, you can tell the chefs had put a lot of effort into making the food look pretty. We enjoyed all our meal. The lamb was nicely cooked melt in your mouth. The fish (John dory) was nice and fresh. The duck was sweet and soft. Good serving portion with fresh ingredients.
