I was in town for a few nights before I came across this place. I almost walked past when a very friendly staff member saw me and asked if I was after dinner. I’m glad she did as the meal I ordered (Scotch fillet) was fantastic. It was a simple dish but each element was done with a small twist, ie the fries were large, hand-cut with a really good choice of sauces. The decor is great, I choose the outdoor area, which was comfortable. Wait time was minimal and the staff really friendly. I will be back next time I’m in Picton.
I have dined at Escape to Picton on many occasions, and every time I have loved the food, the wine, the atmosphere, everything about the place is just fantastic! The menu is great! So cheaply pieced for such a high quality of food! Not only is the food amazing the staff are so accommodating! The best place to eat in Picton by far!!!! Everything is fresh tasting and beautiful! The pork ribs are by far the best! Would eat them every night if I could! Would highly recommend this place! It’s like heaven in shity old Picton!!!!
My partner and I have a fantastic meal here. We had fresh fish pan fried which was perfection. The staff were great and the chef Juliearna made us very welcome. The restaurant is located in a fantastic historic building which has been very tastefully renovated. We would recommend this restaurant to everyone as not only is the food great but the service is even better. The best restaurant in Picton. We can’t wait to go back.
We not only dined, but also stayed at Escape to Picton this weekend for Queen’s Birthday. We had dinner on the Sunday night of our stay and although the restaurant was quiet, the food was excellent, and the service from the staff brilliant. We started with the baked avocado which was divine, and the goat’s cheese which was also amazing. I then had the Surf and Turf and my partner the special of the day, Pork Ribs. Both mains were prepared excellently and were very tasty. The sauce on the pork ribs was one of the best I have tasted. For dessert I had the apple and berry crumble and my partner the cheese cake which we both thoroughly enjoyed. The only complaint is that I literally had to roll myself back to our room as my tummy was so full with amazing food. I would highly recommend both eating and staying here.
I have dined at this restaurant on three occasions now. Thankfully, I only paid the first time (the subsequent visits were paid for by other people). Each time we had to wait for an hour for our meal to arrive even though there were only a couple of others in the restaurant. The meals were of a poor standard for the price paid, steak full of gristle, fish drowned a revolting sauce, undercooked rice etc. This restaurant seems to be trying too hard to be posh, and forgetting what a restaurant should be about: good food and good service.
At first it seemed we found a gem based on decor. Though, our first clue should have been the chef stating that we needed to be out of the restaurant by 7:30pm if we were ordering from the prix fix menu. We ordered dinner. The short heavy set young Asian woman who appeared to be the head waitress took our order. I requested no tomato’s in my salad. She asked if we would like our salad before the dinner and we both said yes. We waited 20 minutes for the salad which was served along with the main she said that this is the way they do pr ix fix even though she promised it would be served before the main course. Tomato’s were included even though she noted to exclude them and there was only one salad for both of us. Apparently were were to share one salad and there was no side plate. When we asked her to take the main course back to the kitchen to keep it warm while we had salad, she argued with us and we had to insist. The steak was of very poor quality – very chewy with a lot of fat. When my husband sent the steak back and asked for another main you could hear the chef complain and rant about this in the front of the restructuring where we were seated. The second main he ordered was decent. Our water was never topped off we had to ask for more water and then wait – for a while. When I mentioned to the staff that I was going to write up our experience in a review. They apologized and said they were sorry it was not up to our standards. I do not recommend this restraint at all. While in the beginning it seemed refined, the service and quality of food was the polar opposite. Do not be fooled by a nice atmosphere and polite greeting by the hefty Asian woman.
We celebrated our birthdays at ‘Escape’ and throughly enjoyed the food. In particular the ‘Seafood Chowder’ followed by Tiramasu for dessert. My husband enjoyed Thai Green Curry followed by a delicious Chocolate Swirl Cheesecake. Service was very good and we would go again. Prices were quite reasonable and surroundings very nice.
