Driving over on Marlborough anniversary on route to Mapua, we stopped off at this bar as its a popular choice right on Tuhunanui beach front. I had the fettuccine and a side of onions rings. I enjoyed my pasta, however the chicken was dry and there were too many mushrooms, not a lot of fettuccine. I would say the onion rings were a tasty side but they were actually an entre at $13 which bothered me. But the salad was great, it added a needed Balance to both dishes. The Staff were.also pleasant and we’re patient with my 90 year old Nana. Not often we all dine together because too often someone from the family decides to make a.scene. so you survived the test, congratulations. We will be returning here again.
Wonderful place for a party – if you are looking for a venue for a birthday or Christmas party, or a work do, then I would highly recommend 623 in the City.We had my daughter’s birthday here and thanks to Debbie and Mike and their lovely staff it was something to be happily remembered for a long time.Mezzanine floor is available so you have the whole area to yourselves. It was beautifully decorated in my daughter’s favourite colours complete with silver and purple helium balloons, purple ribbon, table scatters and decorations.You can order a decorated cake from a delicious selection, and meals are very generous portions and very yummy.Debbie organised everything with enthusiasm and happiness and nothing was a problem. Even lots of excited children didn’t phase her or the staff.This would be a brilliant venue for 21st birthdays or any other significant celebration. Currently in November 2013 the venue hire is free, as was the gorgeous decorating.Everything is such a reasonable and affordable price on the menu – superb value.So impressed and I hope this review helps others to decide to have their party at 623 in the City.
I was a bit hesitant as pub food normally doesn’t do it for me but we’ve now been twice….Both times lovely, tasty, generous, well cooked and well presented meals. The service was also attentive and friendly however also early evening and not busy so there were almost more staff than customers. We will definitely go back.Hmmmmm went back in September for lunch…Seafood Chowder not recommended. Luke warm, and the only identifiable seafood was two in shell mussels. The rest was a chopped up marinara mix that may as well have been catfood in a very gluggy thick sauce… I think probably cornflour used as thickening as by the time it had completely cooled it had gone quite watery.Very substandard.
Had to send my partner’s expensive Beef Wellington back, – it was very rare instead of medium & the pastry was not cooked properly; the vegetables were cold as was the plate. The replacement serving was better: the meat was medium as requested but the pastry was still not cooked properly, & the vegetables were warmer. My chicken was good but the accompanying risotto resembled a rice cake. My vegetables were warmer, but I also had a cold plate. The service was good though & they offered to replace my partner’s meal when he complained (as they should!).
The only thing that’s really really bad about this place is their POOR customer service! Especially the one lady that works there I’m not sure if she’s a manager there but she never has a smile on her face never says hi and just stares you down as you walk in the door, also this place needs to hire more staff gets frustrating when you stand there for 15 mins to get a drink and all the staff are standing down the end having a good ol catch up with the rest of the staff who are in mufti and arent working?!
Never had any probs here, food is always yum and they always have good club deals going. Service fine. It’s a nice place. Don’t let the bad reviews put you off 🙂
I went with my family of four and my mother in law. We ordered humus and pita and BLAT sandwich. I was sick for four days after my wife refused to eat the humus and pita as it was made using some sort of bad oil – my mother – in law refused to eat also. I cannot throw away food i paid for so I ate – i paid the price as the humus was made with bad oil and not only there was heaps of oil ( not olive may be canola) in the center of a well made of nothing like humus. Tasted extremely funny but I ate and new year Day 1, 2, 3 and 4 spent in bed. Now come to my order – BLAT sandwich was ok but the chips ( first time came completely burnt, second time with hair and third time with three food flies in it – finally refunded my money for the BLAT – I think the place is nice to hang out for a beer or so but the place needs a real chef…who knows what he’s doing…
